500 miles on the vehicle and my key remote goes dead. 
I drove around in the vehicle all day, then after returning home, the thing wouldn't work. I used the wife's remote, and it works fine. I went for a 15 minute ride to try to get it to reset, but no luck. Still dead. I guess I have a defective one? My wife says I have a gravity for problem items, either when picking them out myself (item at the store), or when being handed to me (remote given to me by the sales person). Of course, she got the good remote.

it doesn't take long to recharge, IIRC about 90 seconds. Did you try plugging it into the driver door slot to make sure it actually functions ?
Sounds like you have a dud. Take it back and get 'em to give you one that works.
