They only charge with the key in the ignition, theres an inductance ring around the barrel that charges the key as you drive.
I guess thats what is meant by docking the key.
If you are not driving your car due to lockdown i would suggest starting and running the engine for half an hour rotating your keys each week.
I would also recommend lubricating and testing your manual door lock as if its siezed and the remote fails or the car battery goes flat you will have a hard time getting in.
