Just been for a Test Drive |
|
We have just returned from a test drive of a Disco 3 TDV6 HSE at our local dealers and we were both suitably impressed.
We used to own one of the first XC90's, a very nice car but a bit dainty. Then we moved over to a Disco 2 which has also been a great car and was more suited to our family life and rugged country lanes etc (what i mean to say is being washed every month or so instead of every weekend).
The Disco 3 was simply superb and the salesman didnt even bat an eyelid when we turned up with baby and all. We fitted our baby seat, strapped everyone in and set off for an hour on our voyage of discovery.
I wont go on and on pointing out what we found because you are all well aware of it all (and so was i really after reading the Forum over the past few months) but the result was that we are well and truly converted.
All that we need to do now is obtain a few prices from some dealers and decide on a colour.
This is now our big debate.
Shall we go for a Black one with Alpaca interior or my preference of Silver with Black interior. The only other extra that we must have is the darkened rear windows.
Whatever we decide in the next week or so, we hope to take delivery sometime in February or on the 1st March.
I know one thing for certain though, both of us cant wait to own one.

Hi Tony,
welcome to the forum.
On the subject of colour, you don't mention whether you're thinking of cloth or leather. With children (and/or dogs), if you have cloth, it's more practical as a dark colour or with the LR seat covers (black only). You may find that black on black with black windows may seem overtly funereal, van-like or perhaps even drug-dealer stlye. Someone may post proportions of sales, but I would have thought that silver with black interior would be a good choice and a popular one come re-sale time.

Hi and thanks for the reply.
We would go for leather and i believe its the standard spec for an HSE.
The demo one that we had today was in fact black with the Alpaca (light) coloured seats and it did look great.
I suppose that from a purely practical point of view (muddy country lanes etc), the Silver with black interior would and should be favourite.
Decisions decisions!

Hi Tony,
Firstly welcome to the forum.
I did have a dark blue HSE with alpaca, but the interior was very easily marked. I now have a silver with the black interior and I find this is a lot easier to keep clean. I can recommend this combination - looks really good and does not show the dirt as much as other colour combinations do.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply.
When we were out test driving today we did notice that the seats were already marked and this one only had 300 miles on the clock.
The more that i think about it the more i favour the Silver one.

Hi Tony.
If your only going to wash it monthly then stick with your gut feeling as i have a silver one and a disco 1 which is black and needs washing every day (no chance) the D3 every week in this weather. I've two young boys who make a mess but i find the cloth easy to clean.

You're right - leather is standard on an HSE. Given the switches in spec. on MY2006, I wouldn't have been surprised if it was an option on the SE. I didn't appreciate that you were considering an HSE - one of the usual salesman's ploys is to demo a top spec so that you "buy high". Just don't accept the 'no discount' stance - if you're willing to travel, there always appears to be a dealer hungry to make that month's quota who will go an extra few hundred quid. While it may be only a few tanks of derv, it's worthwhile and adds to the joy of ownership

I have a silver with alpacca interior, provided you treat the leather it doesn't seem to mark. Mine regularly gets coated in mud even the red Cotswold mud doesn't stain it, blood, vomit and dog saliva hasn't been a problem. The only thing that I think would be is denim jeans, the dye can be quite tough. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
