Just Removed my side steps - need advice on the sills |
|
Thanks for the previous threads about fitting and removing side steps. I just finished removing them. Took about an hour to remove first time. I didn't have to completely remove the sills but you do need to pop off all the poppers to make sure you get access to all the SS bolts (half are hidden under the sills).
Clearly I now have three holes either side. What would you do guys. Contact Nick for replacement sills or maybe look at enhancing with rock sliders as they look prety cool - mine is tonga green?
Your comments please?
Cheers
Gary 56 Tonga Green HSE.

Hi Gary
I took off my steps a while back and just taped up the bolt holes first off to keep out any dust and grit that would make it impossible to refit them at a later stage - on the cut sills, I just taped them up too in case I snagged them on anything.
If you are selling your steps you could possibly do a swap for complete sills?
Mine is a Tonga green and I think I might have to put the steps back on to keep it lookin 8)
....oh and then get all the scratches out obviously

Cheers Tanters,
I am probably going to keep them so I can bang them on again if I want to - Ill keep the old sills as well.
I think it is probably worth getting new sills (got a PM out to Nick to see how much) but I have seen a few posts on sliders - that said I haven't really ventured to far off road so I dont NEED sliders - they just might make the car look a little differerent.
In the meantime Ill tape them up 56 Tonga Green HSE.

Well trying is not the right word as I haven't done anything about them yet - Discowex gave me a buffer 3 weeks ago and it's still in the boot !!!! just need to find the time and some fine weather, not easy of late
Did you get yours sorted?

I took my steps off and left the holes....
Don't really notice the holes that much especially when it's covered in mud.....

Unfortunatley buffing couldn't remove all the scratches. I had to take more drastic action
If it had been a year or two old I would have left it but seeing as it was just a few weeks out of the factory I wanted it looking ship shape O yea and some of my sign writing came off but that was no harm
Hopefully the sun will come out soon and you can get buffing
