Just picked my new D4 up,
Wow, what a difference to the D3 it is and no DSL this is not a D3 with a facelift. The D3 had a superb ride and was a very comfortable car but the D4 is even better
Just got to familiarize myself with the DAB, TV, surround cameras and using the ipod - never even had an ipod before but received a 16gb Ipod Nano for Christmas. Also got to apply for my private plate to be put on once the v5 arrives.

Have to agree with you there Woody.
Having had my D4 for just one day [and covering 300 miles], it is a totally different drive.
I too initially thought the D4 it was just a facelifted D3 and even annoyed that LR dared to give it a new model number.
But it truly deserves it, a superb machine....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

OK, OK, I'll stop calling it a Facelifted D3!! Can only take a wind-up so far, it's a very nice car and there is not a little jealousy. I should have ordered a D4 today but have deserted the Solihull brand for the Bavarian motorway muncher. A change is as good as a rest so might be back but it would be the D6, if Discovery brand is even kept. Would hate to join The Dark Side.
Still keeping the D3 just to keep reporting its woes, even have a new (to me) one today.

Thanks for all your comments.
Not done much mileage today, been getting to know how the gadgets work. Also installed the very important RLD spare wheel protector and the parking ticket holders. Got a spare wheel cover to put on as well but need to put my new Disco4 badge on it first.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

I had a spare wheel cover on my D3 - I fitted it after I had the D3 for just over a year and it really did keep the spare clean. It also has a really good place for putting the site badge on it.
This is it on my old D3
and this is the new one my dealer gave me when I picked the D4 up.

They will fit the D3 or D4, I've seen them advertised between £25 to £50 on ebay and believe that they are manufactured by a non LR dealer who sell them for about £40. I know my dealer has got quite a few of them left, don't know how much they sell them for as I managed to get it thrown in with my deal. If you want one I'll ask him and then we may be able to use the D3/4 delivery team or post to get it to you.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold
