Scotland 2012 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Firenze RedDiscovery 4

I knew I'd probably have to put a child on EBay....I didn't know I'd have to put them both on there and offer an organ or 2.....
Holy smoke,it was only a couple of years ago that I was shocked that pretty every much FFRR I saw in a dealership had a £100k+ price tag....now it's possible to spec a Discovery in to that price bracket.....
I'm sure it's a lovely bit of kit.....but.....

Ouch... that makes the Range Rover Sport SVR with 20k of options look like a good deal!

It may be a little bit unfair to compare a highly specced D5 with a D4 if the options being added are new and were not available or unlikely to be specced on a D4.

Just because they are there does not mean you have to have them especially as you are unlikely to get very much of the options value back on resale.

I have configured a very nice 240 HSE for around £60k which seems reasonable to me. Very Happy

There might have been an element of seeing what I could get the total build cost up to Whistle but I didn't honestly think I could get to within a whisker of £100k
And you are right, the return on the options would be poor when it comes to resale, but its still scary that you can spec a Discovery to those sort of levels

Ive said a few times now on a few posts and its highlighted above. Where is the FFRR and RRS line now when you can get both well kitted for same as a D5. There core audience may well prove to be alienated.

This all has to be good news for D4 residuals but I may be wrong

It's frightening isn't it, if I was going to spend the best part of £100k it wouldn't be on a Discovery Rolling Eyes

I ordered a D3 SE in December 2004 - for those of us who owned a D2 at that time - would be interesting to know what the price hike was on what was then a 100% different vehicle?

Differential between D3 / D4 when I switched was not great (though I was lucky enough to move from an SE to an HSE)

Switzerland 2013 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Nara BronzeDiscovery 4

Just ordered mine too ...

Mercedes G-Class
16" Rims (265/70 R16)
Distance Pilot
Fuel fired heater (a real one, not that joke, I have in my current D4)
Black leather interior
3 difflocks
...

My personal point of no return was reached, when the dimensions of the D5 boot where published.
If I want a car with a boot height of about 90 cm and 2x" rims, I will go for an estate, not for an offroad vehicle with limited offroad capabilities. And yes, a car with 21" rims has very limited offroad capabilities.

I bit the bullet with the D4 and accepted, that LR wasn't willing to change the brakes before the change to a new model. But with the D5 still need at least 19" rims it's clear (at least from my point of view), that they offer a cool onroad family transporter with the aura of a formerly offroad adventure brand. It would have been easy to shrink the diameter of the discbrakes, as a lot of former offroad customers asked for it.

The current G-class offers a smooth ride, 118 cm boot height and in Switzerland, I can get black 16" rims with AT-tyres as an option.

The management of LR decided to go their (Evoque-)way and I made my decision to go another. LR had the possibility to develop an icon but preferred to morph the classical D3/D4 shape into a streamlined something.

I will enjoy the last months in my D4 and am really looking forward for the G-Class and my rerun of the Piste de Seigneurs in 2017 on 16" rims.

Most manufacturers, when they release a new model, upgrade the standard spec to reflect the technological advancement. So I would expect the D5 to come as standard with some of the D4 options.

Given aside the fact that there is now no "utility" land rover, I will not be purchasing a D5 due to the crazy price to get even a modestly specced vehicle.
I can think of far better vehicles for £60k+

I am glad I bought a MY15 D4, as there is now nothing in the LR/RR line up that interests me

It's just struck me that the options I specced on "my" car configurator come to £2k more than the total cost of the new Golf GTD my wife got 8 months ago.....absolutely crazy...

Sorry to lose you of course, but I completely get it.

If your paying this much money, you either want hardy and ultra practical, which Land Rover have moved away from or, if you're prepared to compromise on everything that the D4 was really good it, then there are so many great alternatives from the mainstream manufacturers that LR is now walking amongst.
