Hi Nick,
Just to be clear then, you have confirmation from the Warranty administrators that the leak is covered by the warranty, and that it will be fixed in due course?
Is the decision not to fix it in its present state down to your choice then? If you took to the dealer and asked them to fix it on Monday, would it be covered?
The bit that is puzzling is you say it does not need to be repaired in its present condition.
This all sound like the warranty is saying that the gearbox is covered if it fails, but it will not repair the leak at the present time. Fast forward to end of August, what if the gearbox is still running fine and the leak is still present - would they not say that it does not need to be repaired in its present condition?

I have confirmation from the dealer that the transfer box is covered by the LR warranty for the oil leak should it need to be stripped down/repaired/replaced etc.
In its current condition (a very slight leak from the case seal) it does not warrant being repaired as it is not bad enough to be classed as 'red' and therefore in need of repair.
I am happy to leave as is. If it gets worse by the time the service is due in Feb then the work will be done. If I get to August and it's still the same then I can choose to take out the warranty for another year.
If at any time it gets worse between now and Sept then it will be back in to be done.
Unlike you I have the luxury of some more time before my warranty is up for renewal.
But given what you know I would definitely be taking the warranty out for another year
I would be looking at a warranty direct or similar warranty which will also cover your wear and tear!

There is the risk that they may wish to carry out an inspection beforehand in which case these 'amber' issues would be excluded from the cover

Ok, so we are in the same boat here. Mine is also Amber status, and that does not warrant it being fixed. It sounds like what you have in principle is agreement that if it becomes Red status, it will be fixed. This is exactly what they are saying to me.
What I thought you meant is that even on Amber status, they said they would fix the problem at a later date, not subject to it getting worse.
I guess my feeling is that I am not sure on the value of the warranty. There are many cases for which it will have been a god send, and many people who have not really made use of it.
I normally use an indy garage to do my work, and I will ask them to look at this before my warranty lapses. If they quote only a few hundred pounds to resolve the leaks in all areas, I would probably do that and not extend the warranty. If they suggest a bill closer to the £1K warranty renewal, then I would be silly not to extend.
Interesting point is that I was told if the warranty lapses, they have to run a check before they extend the warranty. If that happens, I would if this item would all of a sudden be flagged as Red status during the pre-warranty check.

Yes, if you lapse the LR warranty they are required to do a check prior to it commencing again, you then risk anything being picked up being excluded from your cover irrelevant of whether it is amber or red.

I was in the same boat in Jan this year they picked the suspension arms up on a Amber warning so I told them it had LR extended warranty and they are not going to get any better, and in my opinion they are the cause of my tyres wearing excessively so do them !!
They contacted LR Warranty and all was completed under warranty !!
