Well after leaving my D3 with Pentlands LR today for 2 hours and paying the £100 for the the priveledge, I've been told that the cause of my juddering/vibration is:

- Front Lower Ball Joints
- Front Tie Bars
- Front Brake Discs & Pads
- Rear Upper Suspension Bushes

After picking myself up off the floor from the quote they gave, me I'm seriously thinking about attempting the repairs myself

The only thing that are worrying me are:

- I dont know how hard it would be to fit the new ball joints without the tool (after reading Disco_Mikey's thread)
- Dont know about rear bushes yet, as I'm still researching Laughing
- Alignment, I keep reading that it needs to go to LR for this?

Any help/guidance/words of advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Ade

I do know that the rear bushes can be a nightmare, because the bolts seize and need cutting out. At least the did on my last D3, and others that I have heard of. The rest should be reasonably straight forward for a mechanically minded person.

4 wheel alignment is not the preserve of Land Rover dealers, but close tolerance is needed on the suspension heights, and there is a geometry setting mode for the suspension that needs either a dealer or a suitably equipped independant to invoke.

I had almost all the items you list replaced on my 120k mile D3 after the mot man failed it. I let the dealer do the work, and it cost lots. It did however transform the ride quality.

Juddering

Hi

I have had this problem, I notice it more when cruising at a set speed but it does go when accelerating, even more noticable when towing.
I have reset the parking brake and checked all ball joints / balanced wheels swapped wheels ect !
I have spoken to a few owners who have this problem.
If i solve it i will let you know i am still trying!

Had a similiar problem with vibration in the steering at higher speeds. Balancing did not work and everything else was checked. New wheel was ordered for front left side and now no more vibrations.

How much is a double gearbox flush and how long does it take at the stealer or chez TFC?? One of mine (won't say which in case I upset JMC) was giving a funny whining noise from the gearbox are on very steep hills. Also if I reverse and then change gear a bit too soon it judders when it goes into D. If it's not too much I can look into getting it done speculatively.

I just wanted to report that the problem is now fixed 8)

It was determined that the front ball joints, rear upper arm bushes and rear ARB bushes, were causing to much movement, make the whole car vibrate/judder

Rather than just replacing the bushes and ball joints, I decided to for complete new arms both front and rear and new ARB bushes

This combined with an alignment has resulted in a back to normal smooth ride Mr. Green

New front arms, rear arms, rear ARB bushes came to £980

That was also including the fitting only of 4 new tyres and TPMS sensor valves that I supplied to them
