Judder in Low Box

Hi all, I stuck my 05 D3 into low range to reverse the tintent the other day and it seemed very 'juddery'? I haven't tried it without the tintent, is this likely or 'just me'? I don't notice any issues in high range.

Tufty - you might not need to worry too much. My (manual) has done this for the last 18k miles (my period of ownership - it may well have done it before then), only in reverse and only in low range. If what you describe is the same as mine, then it is not what I would describe as clutch judder - its more like entire driveline judder. I put it down to the fact that in low range and reverse being the lowest of all the gear ratios you hardly move even with lots of revs and it just all becomes a bit jerky (which an auto smooths out for you).

So I can state that I have the same, my clutch is absolutely perfect in all respects and has been for a long time and looks like it will be for a long time to come. Thumbs Up

I think you might find that it's transmission 'wind-up' - similar effect on many modern 4x4 with electronic systems controls. It's most prevalent on hard tarmac / concrete surfaces and is due to rotational differences between inner and outer wheels causing the tyres to 'scrub' a little hence the juddery effect. Are you getting the same on nice soft / wet grass ??

On your previous mail you have asked me on 6HP transmissions?

What we experience on the Diesel models more frequent as on the V8 models was a Torque converter SHUDDER feels like a vibration under load in 3rd gear accelerating, this was more an oil viscosity problem not Torque Converter failure although TC replacement was the cure.

The lock-up clutch plate inside the TC had an abnormal shine to it (Glazing as we would call it)

We are in the process on rebuilding these TC as there weren’t clutch plates available. I would phone my supplier for some more info on Lock-up clutch plates availability.
