John more honest?

From Daily Telegraph:
Honest Johns column

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.j...t_13092006

Disco tech

Why does the press slate the performance of the Land Rover Discovery 3? I bought a low-mileage V6 TD SE ex-demonstrator a year ago. It is a very good vehicle and I suggest you try one. Of course it's not a racing car, but given its size, it really goes. I recently averaged 60mph for 200 miles at 28mpg - my previous Volvos would do the same but used more fuel. My wife suffers hip problems but finds access to the Disco easy, because there is no sill and we can lower the suspension. The downside is the electric handbrake, which is too fierce and something of a pain - particularly going uphill in stop-start traffic.
N.M., Alresford

I have tried one - but I haven't done a long drive because Land Rover won't let me. Motoring Editor Peter Hall tested the Discovery 3 at its launch in September 2004 (see the First Drive archive at telegraph.co.uk/motoring) and was very impressed.

I don't know why the bloke is putting his park brake on all the time in traffic. I very rarely use it unless it is obvious I will be stopped a long time.
It's a lot easier to put the electric one on than haul on amanual one!

Even if he uses it regulary...with the auto you can just pull away without disengaging (don't know if you can do this in the manual)

The first day with the EPB was a nightmare... until I worked out that it released into a driveable condition about 500mS before the light went out.... Wink
It doesn't release itself in the same way as the auto, although the software could be modified so it does (sense gear position, sense clutch position, sense throttle <5%) TBH, I use it quite often 'cos it's so easy and the clutch bite point is easy to feel 8)

Just a thought.... is Dylansdad or DickyH registered on there? Laughing Laughing

I agree with tfc. It's fine on the manual - far easier than a traditional handbrake, and probably gets more used because of that. Still not sure why they made it work differently than on the auto though.

Having said that, the only other car which I have driven which has an EPB (an Espace - why isn't there a puking emoticon????) which disengaged automatically with a manual box was horrible in comparison to the D3's.

Mine doesn't, although the car I drove during the test drive had the same system...

Anybody knows the reason?

The car I test-drove was a czech d3
The car I bought is through a belgian dealer

yep, 10forcash, it's manual...
I think the test car was manual as well. Doesn't matter. I'm used to it.
But as Discostu says, with the brake on, you don't move at all!
