Jetboil advice

Buying a jet boil, are they really all the same?

Any recommendation on which is most useful and what you'd have done differently if you'd bought again.

Thanks

I bought a version that doesn't have the piezo ignitor built in. As an ex smoker, I find this incredibly annoying as I no longer routinely carry a source of ignition.

Get one of these instead:

Much better value than a Jetboil.

Thumbs Up

Or go for the discerning choice, a Trangia with a gas burner.

+1 for Trangia. Had mine for over 35 years now, Meths burner only when I purchased mine. However, I like the look of the Brukit, nice and compact, if you just want a brew or a one pot meal.

I always have my trusty Kelly Kettle and a tiny supply of kindling with me. Boil water and cook simultaneously, hot grub and coffee in 20 mins - no mess no fuss no gas.

20 minutes! Shocked

As much as I like Kelly Kettles, gas > fire for a quick brew. Thumbs Up

My 2 jetboils get so used and abused (especially offroading) that neither sparkers work. I just have a fire steel in the box that I keep all my cooking clobber in. Thumbs Up

I have finally replaced my jetboil after nearly 9 years of abuse, it has lived in my webbing and has been battered, it's full of dents the cooker assembly fell apart years ago, the cover is melted but it was still working Bow down

You can easily guess what replaced it, yep a new shinny one and it's going great so far, a lot of squaddies swear by them.
 So far Fiona has:
TRC front winch bumper / GG AT tyres
Warrior 9500s winch / Aux Fuel tank
Mantec sump guard / Kaymar rear bumper w/swing away
RI D2 light pair / de-cat exhaust
RI 10in flood/spot bar / LR puddle lights
Optima yellow top / Prospeed tree/rock sliders
Spilt charge system / Light guards

I use mine at horse shows, out shooting and general day trips awesome kit. My lad had to use a trangia for his DofE he much preferred the Jetboil, the observers all used Jetboils but I guess they were Chavs too Rolling Eyes

So what if it is a shameless copy? Rolling Eyes

If it boils water/cooks one pot meals does it really matter if it is a Jetboil or a cheap chavvy Chinese copy? Dubbs asked for advice about Jetboils and I offered him a cheaper alternative that he might want to consider. Thumbs Up

Alpkit gear is generally very good quality and great value.

Me? I'm a gas Trangia fan. Thumbs Up

Jet boil for me too Thumbs Up Quick easy and packs away neatly too. Worth the bulk in my opinion you can boil water in minutes for a brew and then its about 8 mins for a hot RAT pack.
