Jerry can fuelling advice
Those of you who have toured with 20l Jerry cans, can I ask some of questions / tips.
- Do you use a jerry can spout or funnel for refuelling from the can?
- If so, how do you deal with and store the, now diesel dripping spout, after the event to prevent smell/mess in the car?
- Have you had any problems getting 20l Jerry cans in petrol stations in UK / Europe?
I used jerry cans for petrol for marine use and had fun at some petrol stations and the mess of dealing with spouts but at least they evaporate quickly but diesel is more unpleasant. Never really figured this out!
They are widely used by contractors for small engine plant such as lawnmowers and chainsaws so they are a fairly common sight in filling stations.

I keep my spout for 20 litre containers in a heavy-duty extra-long chemical glove turned inside out (so any drips are on the rubber part of the glove). I store it in the drink holder just behind a rear door and it even my very sensitive wife's nose doesn't notice it. Maybe we have less smelly diesel in Oz than in Europe? You could get some paper disposable funnels and bin them after use.

Some great ideas there, I think the sealed food container is tops and will be popping down to pound land or similar with a jerry can spout stuffed in pocket
Im glad it wasn't just me who has had problems with foul smelling spouts. In the past I'd used dustbin liner approach but never seemed to be robust or leak/smell free even with just petrol.
Opportune asking about Jerry Cans though. Notwithstanding my question about filling cans at petrol stations, can't get close to a forecourt in the last 24 hours as some numpty minister (Maud) suggested stashing jerry cans and by inference filling your car / bath / buckets / cooking pans with fuel now just in case tanker drivers go on strike for which they have to give 7 days notice for anyway. 11pm last night and local garages were queued up. Me, I'm not going to panic buy, just considering putting a 30,000l fuel bladder into my neighbours empty swimming pool. Seems a completely reasonable precaution in the circumstances.

Someone should point out to Mr Maud it's actuall illegal to store more than a certain amount of fuel in a domestic garage - I think 20ltr or something like that was once mentioned to me. Mind you, that was some years ago and the person who said this was quite often proven to be speaking out of their ar e , a bit like our politicians
BTW Stu, found some nice tent pegs in my car when I was unloading it

ISTR it's 5 ltrs for petrol and different for diesel but not sure what the quantity is. Google will be our friend and Ritter supply the answer or spread chaos.
