James Edwards Brock (Preston Land Rover) |
|
Bought my D3 from them in January 2010. Got rid ten days ago because I had had enough....
When I collected the car it had not been valeted and there were sweet wrappers left in the rear
They collected it a couple of days later to valet it and proceeded to drive it like someone else (me) was paying for the fuel. On return, the car was not well valeted - green moss on window edges, windscreen not cleaned on inside etc - seemed no cleaner than when I picked it up originally
Worked well for three months. Then broke down a total of five times with a wiring problem, plus needed exhaust recirculation valves replacing plus leaky sunroof plus lumbar support control broken when I picked it up
The first breakdown LRA came out and replaced a wheel speed sensor
Broek down again. Didn;t take it to Brock as they said they woudl not be able to look at it for two weeks, so went to Kentdale who spent a day not discovering anything wrong. So it broek down again
then sent to Brock for wiring problem. They replaced exhaust gr valves and ignored the LRA report that the suspension / wiring issue was the problem. Broke down again 20 yards from leaving the forecourt
they then had for a week and they fixed some wiring to the ABS unit. During this visit they lost one of the keys I left with them (I left both in case there was somehow an issue with one of the keys)
Broke down again at which point I lost it and informed them I was rejecting the car. they acted to start with as if that was OK but they then started stalling for time (we are now around 5 weeks from the original breakdown during which I had been provided with hire cars for a total of only around 4 days - I was without trasnport for a big chunk of time - JEB never made any effort to see if I had a car. Nor did they ever get in touch with me except for when they wanted something from me - the communication was completely pathetic
here comes the depressing bit - I was in a meeting where I was trying to reject the car and it came out that I had put petrol in it So clearly I could not reject
I was though extremely cross that they suggested I just did a filter change and flush through and put the car into an auction so I didn't have to deal properly with the misfuelling.
Clearly a dealer who thinks it is OK to be dishonest and not take your responsibilities seriously
I was further annoyed by the dealer principal who claimed that there is no particular number of times that they could attempt to fix the car before it could be rejected. Not true (a) I had looked it up (see honestjohn faq's for the case reference) and (b) one of his colleagues had told me they knew they were on their third attempt
So also a dealer who is prepared to lie to a customer about their rights to save themselves from living up to their responsibilities
They acknowledged that they had not communicated properly with me and would make a goodwill offer of some sort.
Collected the car three weeks later and there has been no goodwill offer of any kind. Nor have they got in touch other than to collect the £250 policy excess on the misfuelling (which I got fixed through my insurance policy with NFU)
I will never go to that dealer ever again and will take every opportunity to tell people what I think of them. I will strive to avoid Inchcape at all costs as well (owner of JEB). I may never have another Land Rover again - which is very sad because the car was fab when it was running. Once I got it back I just felt uneasy the whole time I was driving it and had to get rid of it. I may never recover and be able to trust Land Rover again - although if/when I can afford a nearly new D4 I might be back (not that I will be giving any business whatsoever to JEB) although the pathetic showing in the JD Power survey recently published in What Car? (D3 bottom of 4x4's and Freelander next to bottom) will have to improve before I would consider it seriously - an X5 currently appears a lot more likely
That had been the worst ever buying experience in my entire life. My view of the D3 is that it is so ruddy complicated that even the dealers are unable to work out problems when it goes wrong
[my mood was not lightened by having a fire in our house just after the bust up with JEB / the misfuelling. It's not been the best of years I'm afraid]

sorry to hear about your misfortunes
Have to concur about the bad service and attitude at James Edward Brock. I now travel to Hillendale, which is a complete pain because of the extra distance / time (JEB is @4 miles away)
Sadly they appear to have enough business that from this area that they don't need to try too hard.
Anyone fancy setting up a dealership next door? A bit of customer care and should be onto a good one
Hope it works out well for you in the end

Thanks, Mike - have a Subaru Outback at the moment which does the job but without the luxury... saving me a fortune in emotional stress and £££!

I can only agree with the statement of FACT about JEB , they are a complete and utter waste of time.
Even if you spend big time with them on a new vehicle they are not interested and the customer services are dreadful.
Agree about Hillendale , bought a Disco 2 from another dealer but had Hillendale service it etc when i lived near them , excellent service and customer care and the attitude of the complete staff was the best.
Now i have found out about a small independant garage near JEB on the road into Garstang and these boys are very very good, and i would recommend them.

Was pleased that Land Rover wrote to me asking what I though of the used car buying process. They won't like the response, though...

Been waiting for that opportunity but it hasn't come my way.
The only customer questionnaires I receive are from Hillendale where I get good service. Could it just be coincidence or conspiracy theory?

I got the opportunity from Kentdale where the car went in for one day. There was never anything from JEB despite around 6-7 visits altogether. The recent contact was not anything arising from JEB telling LR that I had been in, it was a survey on experience from buying a used Land Rover
I am pretty sure that JEB deliberately suppress the feedback where they know it's going to be bad - but I am biased because I had such a dreadful experience with them

Only one place to deal with up that way, Windmill Landrovers Preston. Great family firm, well thought of in vintage LR circles too. Bought a D3 over the phone from them as their stock is so well described in their website. Got up there to find the car was most understated. Will buy from them again any time.

No longer James Edwards now Hunters |
|
Got a letter a couple of weeks ago from them informing me that the name had changed
My hopes were raised as, if it was new people, maybe I could consider getting another Disco
Unfortunately, a few lines later, it "reassured" me that it was still all the same people...

I know this is an old thread revival, but I'm assuming the name of this dealership is now Hunters.
I've just been to look at a Disco 4 for a friend of mine there, and although the car itself was good (it should be for a 12 plate with only 14k on the clock), but I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on this dealer?
Cheers.
Oh, hello btw, newly here!
