Hello,
When I go to get some new tyres sorted, where should the tyre place jack up the car please?
I remember when I took my D2 ages ago and they tried to jack it up under the rear diff - I was sure that wasn't right!
If they put it on a proper lift - where should it be held up?
Thanks,

Watching this one with interest... 8)
Kwikfit frightened the life out of me at a recent puncture repair - three of them couldn't work out how to jack the car and wouldn't listen to me... No damage done, though.
BTW mine came (18 months old pre-owned by LandRover) with lead balance weights hammered on to the external rim. Puncture repair needed no balance weights but
1. What weights should be used?
2. Where should they be put?
Anyway, having bought a 3-ton trolley jack, I await the usual avalanche of expertise...

I think the D3 comes from the factory with external hammered on weights. When I had my wheels re-coated, I had internal self adhesive weights fitted.

I got VERY cross with a drive-in tyre place in York recently...
dropped off a 19" wheel/tyre for a puncture repair; when returning later to collect it, I discovered they'd left a series of very deep scratches where they had banged off the old lead weight; to make matters worse, they had banged a new one on elsewhere, also scratching this area. I asked why they hadn't used stuck-on weights when re-balancing, and was told that their policy was to replace like for like!
When balancing expensive alloys, how can a banged-on rim weight EVER be acceptable?!?
Anyway, I calmed down when they agreed to respray the wheel. DGRR

Just got back from tyre place. Seemed to know about D3s. Left the hazards on with the boot open whilst doing it (I didn't know that was necessary), and jacked it up in the right place. New Michelin Latitude Tour HPs are excellent. Nice and quiet and feel much sharper than the old Kuhmos.
Thanks for the comment on the weights. I actually got your message about 5 minutes before they asked whether I wanted the weights inside or outside, so I was more clued-up than I would otherwise have been.
Coolest thing was seeing super extended mode - it really is very very high up! 8)

The balance weight thing is something that concerns me, for when I get my tyres replaced. I know that they will plump for the rim wrecking hammer on type, unless I tell them not to. Why don't tyre places do the clip on type that come as std on LR wheels? These, if done correctly can be removed/fitted without any damage to the rim at all. Other than that, it's the stick on type I suppose. BTW, where did the 'experts' put the jack under then John?

Yeah! Great feedback on weights
What's the "boot open" ritual?
Did I not RTFM correctly?
And how does that get you into super-extended mode??
I must have some pages missing...

I do mine on the chassis rails.
I use a good quality 3 ton trolley jack and stick the D3 in Off Road height.
It's as solid as a rock.
Would suggest though that you 'jack up' on concrete.
This allows the jack to re-centralise itself as you lift. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Re. Kwikfit. A friend recently had them put a pair of front tyres on his Mondeo (only because he had picked up a bad puncture on a Sunday afternoon). He then had terrific wobble coming through the steering wheel. Calling in at our local proper tyre shop they checked the balancing and found them a long way off. Rebalanced, everything was fine. The hazards on and tailgate open sounds like a old wives tail to me
Stick it in off road height and jack on the chassis rails and you shouldn't have any issues, I've done this many times with no problems The End

Hey wish I could jack up my D3 - anybody had failure of wheel nutspanner cum wind handle for jack supplied with D3. Tonight wanted to fit new wheels but aforementioned offending article buckled when it had to take the strain!!.
Why oh why did landrover not supply a bottle jack like my D2 had
Oh well another 70 mile round trip to dealer to claim on the warranty

Join the club and it (spanner/locking nut tool) isn't covered under warranty .
Buy yourself a decent extendable spanner.

Sorry, but with the D3's suspension ... I wouldn't even want to try a bottle jack!
