Iv gained 10 mpg
So iv recently blanked off the egrs I found one already blanked off I did the other and removed the flapper as it was still in place all because I was suffering the usual poor performance low down in the rev range, poor mpg down to 19/20 etc. Well after doing all that the car improved but mpg was still bad.......well i had reason to change the battery yesturday and today doing only short trips locally mpg went up to 30 mpg on local roads around town.
Go figure...I'm thinking the car had adapted fuelling to compensate for a failing egr valve cant think of any other reason.
Will report back after a week or so

I don’t even get 30 on a run, more like 28 (properly worked out). I think it’s lying lol.

It's all a bit odd I switched the mpg on the dash driving home noticed it at 25.6 mpg by the time I got home it was at 30 mpg and I only covered a few miles locally. Previously to the battery swop it was sitting at 19/20 mpg

Forget what the trip comp says, the only reliable figure is fuel in vs miles done. I had trip mpg increase by that sort of magnitude just by changing from regular diesel to the super drooper stuff, but real mpg stayed about the same as I usually got. The just another way of the D3 messing with your mind
PS 30mpg around town & local roads? Reality will be around mid 20s if driven gently, low 20s if not. I’d struggle to get 30mpg cruising at 60mph on long straight & flat motorways, especially when it gets colder.

My D3 will give 26 ish around town/ general use. Just climb over 30 on a run. They weigh nearly three tonne. That’s not bad.Discovery 3 tdv6 HSE 2007

By changing the battery you have inadvertently done a hard reset of all modules and removed any stored fault codes, never a bad thing to do It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Absolutely...
With my CCF variable set to -6% I'm showing 24.9 regularly on varied roads and journeys. That's about right against the proper maths method of filling and calculating it.2011 MY D4 HSE

I will do a refill versus mileage comparison to get a proper mpg I was just surprised at the read out improving so much as I drove it. I will be fitting a new ea1000 battery today. I know the car a displays not accurate it was just nice to see it going up instead of down for a change.
I'm still thinking it was compensating for failing egr

I once won a bet at work to see who could get the best mpg on a demo car, i smashed everyone elses scores by getting up to 60mph and resetting the dash i then coasted into work doing 60mpg but they will never know
