Oh dear guys, please don't do this. I work with the fuel companies and it ain't safe, its also illegal. It is a safety measure obviously, to stop all sorts of problems.
Oh come on, every fuel nozzle in the states has a locking mechanism.
Ours don't blow up or spill fuel. If it were a 'real' issue fuel retailers wouldn't have them PERIOD.
And everyone knows that cell phones cause explosions. (trolling. just kidding)

Tim, thats the states, you have guns, we are a nanny state now, not even allowed a pea shooter. Think Martin has cleaned up a bit, bit I posted a couple of links showing exactly what you say does not happen in the states. Three cars blowing up on the forecourt. One was on CNN in a little clip. Our laws are very different to yours as far as things like that.
Just trying to look after the lads. Bit like refuelling a plane and not putting the earth lead on first and removing it last

This is getting dull, and is making me
Locking mechanisms on pump nozzles in the UK are neither illegal or absent. The locking pins are removed not for the reasons suggested, but to avoid station operators the costly problems resulting from fuel spills - where these cannot be dealt with by station staff (there are guidelines as to what can and cannot be dealt with under such circumstances).
It is for this reason that the guidelines, largely followed, suggest that the locking pins are removed. This suggested action extends only to self-service facilities; those with attendants who fill the car for you can quite acceptably have the locking mechanism installed.
That's the reason.

Winger, you wont find them on petrol, but you will I agree on diesel in the UK, unless on private systems away from the public.

I can fold/flatten all the rear seats down and sleep in the back.. like I did for the past two nights! The sunroof open with the screen shut keeps the bugs out. It was fairly pleasant.
Sure did beat the hell out of setting up a tent!
Lots of room. Head and feet had room to 'move around.' Wa Hoo

Just spending some quality time with a local Land Rover club!
Mine stayed in the parking lot for the weekend as the trails were of the 'high risk high chance of damage' variety and Im not ready for a broken window or misaligned door!!..Everyone was driving their trail trucks... two Defenders were rolled.. so it was a good time!!
Next time out Im buying an air mattress... Now if we could only tap into the suspension compressor!

The small things that please...
the two plastic clips on the edge of the windscreen, for attaching parking tickets. Nicer than balancing a ticket on the dash
the huge cup-holders with a 'cut out' for a mug handle. Fit a wine bottle!
the driver door cup holder- fits a Nikon 20-200 f2.8 zoom lens (with camera attached; upside down)
the rubberised dash and centre console areas- great for stopping phones, coins etc from sliding around
the fold flat seats- my main selling point for the car
multi- position rear roller screen
rear boot split- great for changing baby on; sitting on for boots / towelling dry children
rubber mats actually screw down to floor rather than slide around
centre console pulls out at rear to give 2 extra cup holders
extra charger point in front for phone etc
aux button on stereo
interior space- better than my old Galaxy
fuel economy- 33 mpg average from new (2,500 miles now)
air suspension- lower to access level to creep under car park barriers
base wheels are the best looking (in my opinion)
but the little nagglies are:
clock - only displayed on stereo; not on dash.
low max load of roof bars
poor aesthetics (and low departure angle) of HD tow bar
nowhere for a clip on rear bike rack
trip computer does not display driving time
incessant beeping
vast manual which still somehow manages to be too lightweight to answer questions
variable servicing (and consumables) costs between dealerships
having 6 (manual) forward gears means a fair bit of shifting in mixed driving (please don't point out that there are really 12 forward gears)
anti 4x4 ranters
no aux- in dash plug with the basic stereo
no mp3 cd compatability with basic stereo Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

When I was at college (late 80s) I worked as a pump attendant (all down hill since then) and we had clips on all pumps, so I could serve several customers at once. I guess though it is DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
