Not saying that this is a good idea, but diesel as far as I'm aware will not light from a spark or a naked flame! D5 HSE Waitona Grey 2015

I use the lorry pumps to fill mine - far quicker and easier.
Winger, they should not be found in Shell filling stations, if so please let me know. We will soon stop that. I realise diesel is not the same as petrol, but it is still flamable all be it on a lower scale.
I couldn't possibly comment.....

You'd need a lot of global warming to get that stuff to flash (300 degs C).

Interesting that in litigation-hungry USA, the clips are still fitted in many cases, although BN's links show graphically what can happen. Interesting, too, that two of the reports involved Ferraris. Is there a conspiracy theorist in the house?

In Ohio most stations have little catches you can slide the filler handle into to keep it pumping while you're away from the car. I noticed on a recent holiday that I didn't see them in some states, so it they must be disallowed.
I love doing that. I set it filling and go off to clean the windscreen, check the oil, whatever. '05 LR3 HSE
