Its Official - The EPB is cr@p
At the recent Tong off-road day, at least 5 or 6 cars suffered from screaming and seizing EPB's. Is there anyway that this is preventable by routine maintenance etc? I suffered but in the Auto can rely on the P position, however manual cars don't have this facility obviously and as I will be using a manual one off-road in the future i am a little concerned.
Any advise (apart from buy an Auto )

If they are adjusted correctly they are OK. I have not had any issues for a plenty long time. Ask the people that had the failures whether there cars have been serviced lately. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Then ask them if they have been serviced by dealers who actually know what they are doing!!! The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Mine was serviced less than 2 months ago and is playing up, only started after 2 or 3 off-road sessions. If it needs stripping and cleaning every time that's a pain, assuming it's lot of work!!

I now never use my EPB, and certainly didn't at Tong.
But maybe I should have a play and see how it is?

Hammer Nail Head In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
Mine was fine until offroad at Yarwell (LROI show).
Since then PMT has set in and it wails like a banshee at most every opportunity - as 90BHP can attest to at Tong, followed up by the remark "well that's not working then is it"?
Same old routine, switch off, clears, restart, carry on and remember not to use the b dy thing again.
Scares the c p outo f people who don't know about the foibles of the EPB, especially young mothers in Supermarket car parks.
I just sit in the car and smiling politely FORECAST FOR TONIGHT: things have happened out there!!!

I thought it was a good feature. No CB or PMR between the two cars - I could tell when you were stopping every time "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
Mine squeaks intermittently snd it has been to the dealers twice to have it sorted - but to no avail.
However, I have now noticed the sqeaking is related to short journeys and rain.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

That'll be the shoes binding on the backplate, traditional dealer fix is the application of copper grease to the bind points

Had a scare yesterday with Iona Disko's EBP. It locked on and wouldn't release whilst at the bottom of a quarry. Even the manual override of removing the blanking plate next to the EBP and pulling the cable wouldn't make it release. After 10-15 minutes of pulling and head scratching it released itself and he managed to drive out.

I love my EPB
It has actually gone a full service interval now, without squeeking, shreeking, scaring the cfku out of anyone in the vicinity, or even setting the wheels on fire. Its perfect, a fantastic piece of modern engineering.
MOT next week, and I do hope the tester holds the lever up for at least 3 seconds, or it will probably not grab and will fail.
