Can anyone tell me how this binnicle containing the interior lights is removed. Based on my track record of removing trim any advice would be great and it will save me time / skinned knuckles / buying a new one

if you mean the whole central light cluster thing, it's just a committed pull downwards on the front (windscreen) edge, the rear edge has fingers on it that clip over the headlining so don't pull on that end and theeeeennn......???

There are 7 clips that hold the overhead console in place and 3 electrical connectors.
They just push in, so some gentle pulldown persuasion should get it out.
