Perfectly normal I'm afraid. I've witnessed first hand their 'subtle' approach to redundancy, where they send a security guard to your desk and give you 5 minutes to pack and leave - this being the first and last indication that you're for the chop. Very thankful that it has not (yet?) happened to me.
I even had a boss who was removed from her post by phone whilst away on a business trip...words fail me as to how spineless either of these methods are.
Sorry to hear your plight; suggest you try and enjoy Christmas to spite 'em, then get yourself a better paid position in the new year. Contracting back to the same company that fired you but with a bigger salary is favourite, though I only know a couple of people who achieved this (resulting in a rather pleasing bitter resentment by the managers that fired them, especially as in one case one guy was brought back a position above the manager that fired him the week before ).
Oh, and remember that the amount of severance pay is directly proportional to the amount of subsequent assistance you give your former colleagues. The most likely phrase you'll need is "I'm delighted to hear from you and would love to chat, however my knowledge was deemed insignificant and unworthy by the company, so I won't put you at risk by sharing it with you."
Good luck, there's never a good time for redundancy, but this time of year just shows they're socially and commercially inept.

yup...
although not sure where i stand legally,
i do have one LITTLE upside, sort of ish though
swmbo is actually a major client of the company, she has a balance of over $60k. so if they dont sort out the redundancy, money owed to me etc etc then she's happy to f them off and we keep the dosh..
stapidm. although it looks like they're having a right old clearout, NYC rep just got axed as did another half dozen or so.. also seems that they are about to loose the creative director as well as operations etc etc, mass walkout is on the cards...not a good idea,,one wife.......livid

Just remember that redundancy is a form of dismissal and any deviation by the employer from the statutory dismissal and disciplinary procedure may automatically make it unfair. Basically, if they haven't followed the correct consultation or selection procedures then take the feckers to an employment tribunal.
Ultimately get some advice to ensure you don't lose any entitlements ....you can go to CAB an they will offer some guidance 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Oh those sweeping clearouts can pay dividends. I was part of a mass redundancy once (400+ people, total closure of site). Turned out that in order for the company to make transactions through it's specialist bank, they had to have accredited/qualified employees to post the payments/receipts.
So technically they ceased trading, although they didn't find out until a month later when some poor admin tried to move the $millions of payments and receipts for that months trade
They then told the group of qualified ex-employees that they had made a mistake and that if they'd pay back their redundancy they could have their jobs back. Some savvy chap in the group said, that's nice, but how about we set our terms or you go under... They went back for a six month contract on an obscene amount of money
Hope it works out for ya Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Sorry to hear that ad15.......time to get the contract out and read the small print...US companies seem to hate any challenge to P7P's.......now go and open that bottle of port Club RLD spare wheel protection
Club RLD skid plate
Club its all black
Club D3 - it's gone
Club D4 - just arrived and still all black
That suck AD, but on the plus side, I've never found myself worse off for going through what you've just had happen. You don't strike me as the sort to the let the grass grow under your feet, so enjoy a couple of weeks off and throw yourself at the challenge fully refreshed, full of vigour and ready to take on the world
Oh, and it doesn't hurt to post a brief summary of your experience on here. When I found myself struggling for work a couple of years back I got a lot of suggestions, leads and moral support on here I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
