is it easy to replace the wiper stalk |
|
I am having a little trouble with my rear wiper. I switch in on correctly by pulling it towards me and when I want it to stop I push it awy from me. The problem is it then starts up at random times , I push hard on the stalk and sometimes it does stop but most of the time it just starts up all on its own. I suspect the fault is in the stalk so I thought of replacing it as they appear to be around £40 on ebay but is it an easy job, has any one done this and if so could you advise please Landrover Discovery 3 TDV6 S 7 seat Automatic

Yup, its a five minute job, unscrew and unplug. worth opening the existing unit and giving it a clean before splashing out on a replacement,
I had similar symptoms and a spray of WD40 sorted it out. I started off with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

Remove the steering wheel cowl and theres two screws holding the wiper arm to the column.
Prise the unit apart with a small flat head screwdriver ( watch out for small part inside) gave it a clean and has worked a treat since.
My rear wiper was doing what ever the front was. I started off with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

When the car is switched off and the handbrake warning light on the dash disappears thats what signifies 'sleep mode' but to be on the safe side check out the posts above and the wiki link

Its quite straightforward and nothing to be scared of as long as you stick to these guidelines
