Not all of them but the germans are not stupid. Spent many years in the forces in germany and I know for a fact they ony buy the best. But abit of snow doesn't keep them at home and snow chains work really well and if the weather gets really bad we use to put our skis on in germany. Snow, cobblers this isn't snow until you have to climb out of your bedroom window. I bet there all having a good laugh at us over there as we use to drive with walls of snow between 5 - 7 metres high either side of the road. Wear the right kit and enjoy the weather, it was beautiful out there today and if your really having problems driving in the snow then buy a unimog Don't be blinkered vision, see the world in colour.

We've got a new one arriving tomorrow (although it may not - it has been delayed 3 times already as they can't drive it up from Lincoln in this weather )... RWD and light weight at the back is the problem. We have another 09 320d in the family and it got stuck on a flat surface - had to be pushed on to clear tarmac. 630i won't go anywhere, same problem.
X5 has 4WD and HDC (borrowed from RR production) so should do a bit better... 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Have had a few instances of fookin stupid drivers when i have been out and about. 1 particular one springs to mind on the A66 west bound just before they closed it, was travelling along in works truck with a few trucks in front and a few behind me taking it easy at about 30 mph when this little focus flies past in outside lane in the snow and pipping his horn at us for being slow. Well 5 mins later we all passed him as he was nose into the centre reservation and slightly up a bank as he wiped out. Not unsurprisingly most of the truckers saluted him in true style as we went passed and he was stood at the side of his car. POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Big difference between here and Germany is that the germans normally have 2 sets of wheels and tyres the 2nd set being steel wheels and proper winter tyres as is the law over there now. Also they don't mess about and are fully prepped to clear the snow off the roads and all the footpaths are cleared by the residents as its their responsibility and by law must clear it. It could if the authorities had the balls to enforce it. In germany their is no question its balck and white as to who has to do what. The coppers there will on the spot fine you if you do not comply and the law suits that you face if someone falls. POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Great idea guys but the f ing councils, authorities what ever you want to call them are the f king problem. They couldn't clear the roads to get anyone out to check if we were all clearing our footpaths.
If they did then I would suggest most people would do their bit. Don't go blaming the general public for this not working (although you might be right) until we reach that state of nervana where our councils / authorities are every bit as good as we are led to believe the Germans are.

Thought I'd put MrsR's 5 series facing the right way... reversed off the drive OK, but had shovelled snow off half the length of the close by the time I got the damn thing back onto the drive again... She can go to work by bus on Monday!
