iPod sound distortion - D4 |
|
The sound reproduction from iPods on my D4 breaks up and is distorted; I have tried different combinations of iPods and cables, but they are all the same. I found a technical bulletin from LR US which says it is a known issue and if the cables/iPods are not defective the ACM should be replaced. My local LR dealer says "it is not the same fault" even though the description in the bulletin is an exact match for my problem, and that a fix will be available "shortly" - they have a list of D4 and RRS owners seemingly waiting for the "fix"; 5 months later, and 18 months since the car was registered and no fix. Anyone come across the same issue? Daniel

Strange as I don't seem to have any issues with Ipod leads and some are not even genuine ones.

Title: Audio Loss/Crackle Category: Electrical Last modified 05-Sep-2013 00:00:00 Symptom207000 Entertainment Systems Content
Issue:
Customer failure mode is an intermittent 1-2s loss of audio in any source, which then recovers but can happen multiple times.
The occurrences may vary depending on location and proximity to transmitters in the UK.
Cause:
The issue first occurred on Wednesday 28th August and corresponds with a change in the UK Broadcast for TV Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) feature.
This issue appears only to affect vehicles fitted with the Lear Hybrid TV module.
The broadcast causes the TV module to carry out a reset which results in a temporary loss in audio, irrespective of which audio function is being used e.g. (Radio, CD, etc).
Action:
As a temporary measure and with customer approval it is possible to mask this drop out by setting the TV region to USA. However, this does prevent the TV from operating but provides a quick although temporary fix until a more permanent resolution can be found.
1. No parts are to be changed in an attempt to resolve this issue.
2. Disable TV by selecting USA region from the touchscreen
3. It is essential to perform a successful shut down of thevehicle electrical system, by ensuring the ignition system is off and not used for a minimum of 5 minutes. This ensures the TV records this as a 'last good state' and that the new region is stored when the vehicle is powered on.
4. This is a temporary solution until permanent fix can be established. JLR will communicate this permanent fix as soon as possible. Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

iPod sound distortion - D4 |

Thanks Waterbuoy; this is what the dealer says it is and the they have tried the TV reset without success, but the symptoms are not the same as I do not have any issues with the radio, only the iPod. The symptoms in the US bulletin are spot-on but the dealer dismisses it. The bulletin says:

Title Distorted Playback When Using I-pod / I-phone
Category Electrical
Last modified 14-Jun-2012 00:00:00
Symptom 207000 Entertainment Systems
Content Issue: A customer may report a concern that when an ipod/ iphone is connected to the In Car Entertainment system using the ipod/ iphone cable only, the play back sound appears distorted or jumps.
Cause: If the microchip has been manufactured at the lower end of the threshold band a sound distortion may be noticed. The tolerance band has now been reduced.
Action: Upon diagnosis of a customer report, carry out the following steps:
1. Check that the I-pod/ I phone and cable is not at fault by substituing the cable and I-pod/ I-phone.
2. Check the I-pod/ I-phone socket and connections are not at fault.
3. Check that the connections to the Audio Control Module are fully latched and there are no backed out pins.
4 Replace the Audio Control Module. Daniel

In that case I'd suggest that you contact LR Customer Services by email, or PM Pete who is their rep here on the forum. Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
