Got in the car yesterday - iPod was on - and then a crackling noise and it all stopped.........
Had been working earlier that morning. Radio, CD & Sat Nav audio still OK
Any thoughts? Any chance of a quick fix?
If not, it needs to go back to dealers anyway as fuel warning light still dodgy (only going on at 20-25 miles range remaining)

My iPod did the same yesterday.
Turned out the iPod battery was empty... didn't notice until fiddling with the FM transmitter I use with it for about 10 minutes
The moral of the story: start at the beginning when troubleshooting.

slightly off-topic but my fuel light goes on at 19, thought it was a feature, I seem to recall a thread about it a while back. Let us know if dealer does anything about fuel light. d4 HSE

Hi stick
They've already had the fuel tank out as the warning light wasn't working at all.
Claimed to have fixed it - in my view (and more importantly, in SWMBO's view) 20 miles range just isn't enough
Will have to have a chat with them

My wife gets twitchy if there is less than 100 miles left, so light hasn't been tested much! d4 HSE

wobble the ipod cable and see if the sound changes. My lead needs replacing under warranty and will be done on the next visit. I have managed to get mine to play at correct levels but having the lead pushed slightly upwards where it connects to the ipod as a temporary solution.

Done a fair few miles in mine over the past 2 days and yep i too have had the crackly ipod thing
I took the ipod out and back in and it was fine - think it was a loose connection
Cable things a bit poorly situated anyway everytime i shut the centre arm rest the bloody lead gets in the way
Gonna put a 8gb USB stick in instead n do away with the cables
I've got this one in my wifes beetle

I dropped into the stealers on the way to the airport. Tried a brand new cable - still didn't work - they suggested I book it in for them to explore the issue. They mentioned a connector under the driver's seat which comes loose sometimes.
Set off and realised I had another iPod in my briefcase in the boot - so pulled into a lay by and swapped iPods - worked first time and continued to work all the way to H'row.
So - it looks like it may be a problem with the iPod itself 14 Disco 4 HSE

Had the dealer call in on his way home from work last night with a new lead,it still didn't work ,he suggested that it might be the iphone4, so tried an iPod this morning & that doesn't work either Www.devonchilliman.co.uk

Just taken delivery of D4 - plugged ipod in - via USB - brand new ipod, wont come up on the screen - wont connect. nothing. Any ideas? Is this part of the general lack of compatibility via usb..? I wonder if an ipod cable might work...?

iPod is not connected via the usb input. That is for a memory stick with music files on it.
There is a special iPod input next to the usb for which, as Woody179 says, there is a dedicated LR lead.
Car should have come with one.

The ipod cable was a £25 option when I purchased my D4 - believe they cost a lot more from the dealer.
