Three ways one good two not so...
....the easy way is to get a co-ax connector (£3..00) that goes from your headphone plug - reasonable sound, volume on pod still operates the system volume....cheap & cheerful
.... buy one of the many radio plug onthe bottom of Ipod devices (up to £40..00 ish)....this transmits to a radio preset...soung & reception varies from cara to car, picks up interference....on the whole poor
....buy the Landrover installation for Disco 3 (£250..00 fitted)....your Ipod goes into holster mounted just behind wheel at right hand side..uses steering wheel buttons ..the Ipod connection still leaves the Ipod wheel & screen funtional & has the glove box connector for USB stick memory devices to be used...sound awesome..very neat installation & worth the money.
There are others (Harmon Kardon for one) that look good but in the flesh is quite cheap & nasty. BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

John,
If you put 'ipod' into the search facility, you can read the detail, but in effect the choice on an HSE is probably:
1) plug it into the aux on the back of the central console, either with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable or a charger/adaptor like the Belkin unit that plugs into the 12V socket and keeps it charged. Cheap and easy to implement
2) LR iPod unit that allows some degree of remote control of the iPod. Dear, but also gives USB plug for other music players. Might require dealer fit
3) Harmon Kardon 'Drive+Play'. Separate display mirrors that of iPod and gives full functionality. Most expensive. Best fitted by an I.C.E. installer.

Having tried the 3.5mm lead to the aux skt, and now having fitted the LR kit I would strongly recomend the LR ipod kit. Can be picked up on ebay or from Nick for £150 ish and I fitted it in about an hour with no problems. I did not drill and bolt the USB / switch box into the top glovebox but ran it into the lower glovebox and simply fixed with double sided tape. No drilling, very easy! Also fitted the cradle on the inboard side of the steering wheel as it seemed a bit on show on the window side.
The sound is fantastic and far exceeds the aux input, plus track selection with the pod in shuttle mode is great from the steering control.
Cheers, Richard.

Subject to BL's reply there is a 4th option that will use the line out on the iPod...
Check out http://www.sendstation.com/ and PocketDock and look for their Line Out products (USB or Firewire) Discovery 3 XS Auto, Stornaway, Active rear diff.

I agree that the fitment options you have done are better than the standard LR places - if I could move mine I would....the RH side of the wheel is a bit open & the place LR put the glove box socket doesn't work with some standard size sticks....I got a 16Gig stick from work that certainly doesn't.
The bits I got with my LR Ipod hook up I don't think would accommodate a New Nano but would be OK with the 80/160 Gig classic.....the New Nano really is the business BREXIT - done properly.
