You can pick up a 3.5 mm connection and wire it into a point in the passenger footwell, which utilizes the AUX button, and then work your pod off the headphones jack
There is pictures and threads in here about it somewhere
Alternatively I think TFC does a neat and nifty install

If I could do it, it was easy peasy, just don't drill holes in the wrong place in the top glovebox like I did!

I bought one off fleabay last year - fairly cheap too. it has a retractable wheel in the middle to keep cable tidy but gives good length so you can view ipod whilst driving if needs be. Bought one of this non slip pads then and just keep it on top of the cubby whilst travelling and throw it in the cubby when parked up.
Sound is good enough, you'll have to have the volume jacked up on your ipod
The Ipod kit will deffo give best sound and nicest fit etc. TLO supplies at good discount to site members(see above),A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
I hesitate to take bread out of TLO's mouth, but have you considered the Harman Kardon Drive+Play, a quantity of which is being sold cheaply on eBay? See this thread for details.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
