iPhone4 problem

This may have been discussed elsewhere, so sorry if I am doubling up. When I first paired my iPhone4 with the D4, it worked fine, but had only picked up some of my contact list, seemingly at random. I have 6,500 contacts in the phone, and I initially wondered if the LR couldn't cope with that many, but now it has decided not to display the phonebook at all, although the call memory log is still there. The phonebook button is greyed out.

In addition to this, when I first plugged the phone into the iPod lead, it identified only some of the music files, again, apparently at random. It now shows a 'device error' message, and is not listing any of the music files, even though it recognises the phone by name. I also get a message on the phone suggesting that it is not fully compatible.

I have checked the compatibility of the software version of the phone (4.1 8B117) against the VIN of the car, using the LR website, and all boxes are ticked as 'fully compatible'.

Anyone else have similar problems? Any ideas?

thanks in advance,

Ray

have you had a flat battery recently ?

mine went all odd after my battery went flat. started working again as if by magic approx 500 miles later just as I was dropping it into the dealer to be looked at.

I reckon it could have been a dodgy battery - thats all i could come up with Exclamation

I've only a few hundred contacts, but the uselessly cCensoredp scrolling display / search "feature" on the built-in system makes it impossible to select them without beating head in frustration, so gave up after a few days and bought a Brodit dash mount kit for the iPhone. Now can easily use the iPhone to search contacts and dial. Also makes navigating iTunes a doddle Thumbs Up

Had the "device error" occur on mine a few days after delivery in July. That turned out be a faulty cable (phone/iPod to cubby box connector). Subsequently had two other "device error" messages, but both fixed with a hard reset of the iPod (not responsive until reset).

To add to this, make that 750 line items. If you have multiple numbers per contact, each one reduces that 750 limit..........

Perhaps I should explain that I have my business contacts database on the phone. I don't know that many people personally!!! It's easy to synchronise them all from the PC, and that's what I've done. Perhaps if I thin them out drastically, everything will work as it should, but that would take a long time.

Thanks for your thoughts so far.

Have you tried selecting a letter to jump to via the keypad on the radio ?

Have you tried using groups. You could put all your business contacts in a "business" group. Same with "family and friends", "frequently used" etc. (contacts can be in more than one group). then when you synchronise your contacts with the LR you can specify which groups to synch. (I should say that I haven't tried this - I just saw the option on my phone when I paired it. I don't have enough contacts to worry about this)

You don't have to download the entire yellow pages onto your phone Mr. Green , there's an app for that Mr. Green

No seriously, I don't think any bluetooth device can correspond with 6500 contact listings....
