The adapter from the Apple store has arrived, fitted it to the D4, and iPod touch charges no problem. Great fix! Paul

Advice please. I was going to buy a new i pod touch next week to use with the cable supplied with the d4. If I'm following the thread correctly is it a case of me buying an ipod & not being able to charge in use unless I buy an adaptor? never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly

pko - Yes that's right.
An ipod touch will work with the lead supplied with the D4, but it will not charge unless you also buy the adaptor mentioned above. 2016 D4 Landmark - Waitomo/Ebony

I'm not buying any of the excuse for LR to be put forward...I've had an iPhone since they were release, and upgraded last year to the 3G version...
Anyway all my gear before that was for an iPod Generation 3 (god knows how many years old) and no matter what I use all of it, each cable, each docking station...It all charges my iPhone (both models)....Blaming Apple is always the easy option, not implementing a spec that has been out for over a decade is not good enough of an excuse... Am i missing something here !! I sold my D3 last year for a FFRR. At the same time LR introduced the Ipod kit which on the FFRR integrated more with the touch screen than the D3 did . It works perfectly with my iphone 3g. When i plug in it brings up the warning about not been properly integrated with the iphone and whether iwant to go into airplane mode -say no and then IT EVEN CHARGES !!!!!!!!!-so if LR got it right then whats changed-seem like a BIG LR c**k up.

The piece of info which is missing is the small fact that Apple changed the charging spec & socket pin-outs, and in so doing they also licensed the new socket meaning anyone wanting to utilise the newer socket now has to pay Apple a nice fat royalty fee.
So, blaming Apple might be the easy option; it is usually the most accurate as well. I wouldn't blame LR for telling Apple to go to hell one little bit. I would have done the same in the same way I refuse now to update my older IPOD and also flatly refuse to have an I-Phone.
Ask yourself why the MS Zune works fine on a USB cable but the IPOD doesn't. Also, the Zune works perfectly with FLAC files but the Ipod does not (DRM cannot be applied to FLAC). Then look at DRM and which company will not allow you to have 1 track on 2 devices (even if you own both) unless you buy that 1 track twice. The list is endless. USB if a really nice universal way of connecting stuff and works just fine for audio, except it prevents Apple from pillaging your wallet at every opportunity.

Again I don't buy this pin layout change...How come all my old third generation ipod chargers work with my 3g iphone and my original iphone, as do the speakers and so does the doc to my Onkyo amplifier and my third party car chargers and the docking stereo on my boat...I think someone hasn't implemented the spec correctly the first time, so when apple changes things slightly then it is no longer backwards compatible....But if they implemented it correctly it wouldn't be a problem... wut?
Apart from the bit about FLAC, none of that has been my experience. Apple was the company who asked the labels to drop DRM, and most of the iTunes tracks are free of it.
It's annoying that LR couldn't get its act together with suppliers on a spec. change but there it is. Stump up £20 or wait for a change or forget about charging while playing. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
