iPhone (and iPod Touch) is now capable of playing music through you car stereo using Bluetooth. I've had success playing my voicemail through the LR audio, but not my tunes yet.
Using this technology you wouldn't have to use an audio cable.
Anyone out there had success with this yet? 2006 LR3 SE-7 Zermatt Silver

as far as i know none of the LR radios will play bluetooth music (not sure on new D4 etc)
Voicemail will work as thats to do with the handsfree phone system

My 3G iphone streams Voice and music via bluetooth through my audio unit no issues - but then I have fitted a non OEM multimedia system to replace the feeble LR unit 
It is great that you can eliminate all the extra trailing wires etc...
