ipad 2 connectivity
I wanted to get a TV/DVD Player for the D4 HSE but finding the right one is proving hard, people don't return calls etc from company's when they say they are.
So i was wondering if i could connect an ipad 2 to the HSE's in car surround system?
That way i could download films etc and watch them on the ipad but get the surround sound from the car. Is this option available?
has anyone else done this? its a 2010 HSE Disco 4Mud Flaps - Slimer

Just get a decent set of headphones, Bose Quiet Comfort 15's are brilliant (noise cancelling), that way you can get totally immersed in the film / music without all the traffic noise, heaters and other nonsense going on as it totally blocks everything else out, it would also not then distract the driver

I tried plugging mine in using the iPod cable, hoping I could play a video and have the sound output through the sound system, but no luck. It works just like an iPod, transfers control to the Nav screen to select your music/playlist.
I'd guess you'd need some sort of additional input available, if it's even possible. I don't have the RSE package, but that might allow that type of connection.

Just tried watching a youtube clip through my iphone 4 and the sound comes through the speakers when plugged into the LR socket under the arm rest, does this mean it will work on the ipad?Mud Flaps - Slimer

No bluetooth audio on the MY11 US version. The dealer told me that it's supposed be a feature on the MY12 US version.
I tried my iPhone and I was also able to get audio from you tube to play through the audio system. Can't get the audio to play when using the video app on either the iPhone 4 or iPad 2. So it seems to only work in a limited capacity. I'm going to try a few other things to see if I can get it work and post back the results.

I have a iPod Touch 4g connected up in the D3 with video out to the centre nav screen and stereo audio through the ICE system aux.
I'm not quite sure how it would work in a D4 but if you have a stereo aux in socket somewhere then you can use the following cables and connectors to get sound out through the aux setting of the ICE.
and then into the aux 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
After some testing, I've had some success in getting the the audio to play over the sound system while watching a video on the iPad 2. It wasn't working when using the native video app on the iPad, but it did work when viewing a video using the you tube app.
So I decided to test out a few home made videos and the VLC app. The VLC app lets you play just about any type of video on the iPad separate from the built in video app. I copied a few videos to the VLC app on the iPad (This is done through iTunes and the file sharing section) and plugged in the iPad to the center console iPod cable. When I started the video up within VLC, the audio came through on the sound system. When pausing or stopping the video, the sound system started playing music from a playlist on the iPad, but will cross fade into the audio of the video once you start playing it again.
So it seems that you should be able to watch a video, albeit using a separate app like VLC, and the audio will play through the sound system.
