Key fob shedding its skin
I'm sure others have had this, MY12 key (the one with the chrome strip down the side) and both keys are starting to shed their rubber skin. Had the exact same problem with my previous Evoque key, so clearly a design fault).
Before I embark on some delicate gluing, anyone got any tips on the best way to repair it?
I did a search and trawl through to see if been covered before but couldn't see anything.MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

No matter what I tried glue wise it wouldn't hold - eventually got bored and bought some silicone covers from ebay that just slide on - about £2.00 each ISTR

This seems like your best option,
I rotate using my main and spare key, one of them has the rubber flapping around and I thought of using this service. I'm sure he can help without bodging it back together..

The landrover part number for the keyfob case (newer type with the chrome edge) is LR078922 rrp £8.55.
You can then swap your circuit board & chrome trim over easily.

How easy is "easily"? Any cutting or gluing needed (both actions I could screw up)?
is the "newer type" any smaller than the 70mm x 40mm x 20mm one I have ? it's getting to be nice weather again and I'll end up taking a jacket into the office just to have somewhere to keep the key fob.
had a jag on loan when original D4 got stolen and fob was much slimmer..

Land rover have, without realising it discovered materials that it is physically impossible to stick together. It's one of the discoveries (no pun intended) of the century. Someone at LR should get a Nobel prize.
I tried gluing mine with super glue without success. Then I tried really expensive super-super glue. No dice. The nice people at the dealership then replaced them for me at service time. Now they are coming adrift again.
The most unreliable thing about my D4 is the rubber on my key fobs. Which I guess must only be good...

No cutting or glueing required.
Take apart like you would to change the battery.
The circuit board is held in place by two small plastic posts sticking up from the case. On the original fob these have had the top slightly melted to form a blob which holds the board in place. Carefully lever the board next to the blob and it'll pop off the post. Lever one then the other.
Should the post break off, as they are very thin, then just pull it out of the board once it's out of the case. This gives you two holes in the board to aligne to the new posts on the new case.
I never bother melting the posts again, as the two halves of the fob hold it in place, which just snap together.
I've made it sound complicated, but it's dead easy

The newer fob is much slimmer and smaller than the old Samsonite suitcase type!
You can program a new style fob to your car as well. They both work.
But, as the new style fobs need a separate key blade you would need to get one cut for the emergency key opening. People like 'keys in the post' will cut the new style blade from a photo of your old blade in your old style key.
Sadly I know only too well that keys can be programmed ... that's how the s took my last one
I'll see if the dealer can get me one ... given that's where the car was stolen from..
