Intermittent suspension fault

Hi all
Ok so on the bread knifes D3 we have an intermittent suspension fault, start vehicle and all is well sometimes the fault pings before you’ve got out of the drive way other days you can drive 20 miles before it appears. Stealer says we need a new compressor so I thought I’ve got nothing to loose so removed said compressor and took it to bits, gave it a good clean and replaced o-rings, tested it on bench and it sings away sweetly producing a good amount of air. Refitted to vehicle and fault is still there!! It seams if you raise vehicle and lower before driving off the longer it takes for fault to appear! Is there anything else that could be causing this fault or is it a new compressor??? Only fitted this one 3 or 4 years ago and it’s an AMK type.
Cheers.

Not sure on AMK but what fault code shows up as this will give the forum a clue

Pipes could be blocked ,I rebuilt mine and there was white powder in the pipes from the compressor .Could be valve blocks leaking ,Get it up in off road height and try and spray soapy water over the pipes and air bags.

It just brings up the amber warning and says only normal height available.

I might try blowing the pipes through one by one, I did consider the valve block but couldn’t think how to test it.

Any other known faults I should be considering?

Hole in the air tank.
Usually on the top.. Often you can her the leak, but not always..removal is often the easiest and quickest way to rule it out.

Check for leaks, especially at the voss connectors at the strut tops. Try using a spray bottle with car shampoo and water mixed....

Being prudent you should perhaps stick a new relay in as you have gone to the extent of overhauling the compressor.

Check for white reside in the valve blocks. The front is the easiest to access. If there is any dust from the dessicant you would be advised to remove clean and rebuild the valve blocks with a new set of seals.. the cost in terms of components is minimal... i use these ones.

You need to, at the very least, get the codes read and post what they say.
To even attempt a fix or to advise on a possible fix without doing so is just random and foolish.

It's just guess work G_Cam. Without codes we're all guessing.
Disco Mikey has a crystal ball image that he posts for threads such as this. Wink

If you look at my suggestions they are fault find and fix... not just guessing.. (apart from the relay which is simply prudent)

ie if the tank has no hole and no leak.. you do not need to fix it! but you can eliminate it and move on.

While an iid or such like is totally indispensable it will only ever guide you to an area for investigation.. So yes you can look at venting gallery pressures, height sensor voltage etc... but if you don't have any facility to read codes you need to go down the old fashioned fault finding route in terms the most to the least probable cause... which is what the OP asked for.. Thumbs Up

Or connect to the MMP psychic transmission broadcast channel..

Hi,

Sorry that I'm a newbie what comes to this forum and discovery 3's. I like to ask a couple of questions because I have a same problems.

I have a leak or some other problem of the front valve block. If car stays overnight, front of the car is bumpstops. When I start my car i feel that rear of the car start rising asap and theres a small delay (maybe second) when front of the car start rising. Suspension fault normal height only error comes allways just when front of the car start rising. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? First time when this problem starts was few days after coldest time of the year (-25 week). In - 25 degrees air suspension works fine but when temperature change - 25 to 0 in a day and cars sits 3 days, problem starts.

When the error is active, front of the car still rising but it takes maybe 30sec to 1min. Why's that?

When the car has rise normal height and I restart car, usually everything is ok. No errors. But if I try to use offroad height or access height, error comes back asap.

I dont have a code reader, yet so what you guys think?
I guess the broblem is in the front valve block. Maybe compressor? If its the valve block, is it better to buy a new one or a repair kit?

And sorry my bad english, its not my strongest thing in the world Smile

I had this problem... was the alternator in my case. Normal height only appeared after cresting a hill and backing off. Check for burnt smell in engine bay.

Hei and tervetuloa. It’s more courteous to find an old/inactive thread which most closely matches your problem than confuse somebody else’s current issues. Maybe this one.

I would try leak testing the air bags and pipe work, working your way back to the valve block.
