Intermittent smoking after long runs with recent misfire

My D3 has started intermittently smoking after long journeys, not always - just once in a while. No smoke when driving, but when left say overnight and starting in the morning it will sometimes smoke like the devil for a couple of miles before clearing. No loss of power - just the billowing white clouds. Doesn't do it on short trips at all.

A week or two back when I started the car one morning it had a clear misfire after a longish journey the previous day. No smoke, just lumpy as hell. Called out the Green Flag man, who came 90 minutes later. When we tried starting the car again, all was well with no misfire.

No dash board lights, no bongs, nothing.

I suspect I have an injector problem. Something causing it not to shut properly after a long journey, leading to fuel drip overnight so the white smoke is just diesel burning off in the morning. Does this sound right and if so is this a new injector / set of injectors - how do I tell?

Thanks in advance

Andy

It does sound like a dripping injector Andy, you will have to get diagnostics on it and look at the balance offset to determine which one. There might be a code pending which might point the way.

White smoke ( Not Water Vapour) is usually unburnt diesel fuel . It could be water vapour, has the coolant level reduced?
