Intermittent Problem With Revs
Hi
Over the last couple of weeks the wifes Disco has developed an intermittent issue whereby the revs appear to stick on slightly.
Now it happens usually after starting the car and driving off to a stop or junction, then the revs seem to stick?
Now they are not high, but it is annoying none the less, so I thought I would check to see if anyone has had similar isdue - as there are no faults listed in the vehicle.
Thanks for your time.
Kind regards
Jay

I have noticed similar recently, and think it is because I set the air con to a colder setting than usual, idle speed seems to stay higher sometimes, although only briefly, perhaps to cope with demand.

Hi DN
Ours happens without AC on unfortunately. Literally we can simply put it in gear, deactivate handbrake - drive 10 meters to a junction and with the car stopped - the revs seem to take a couple of seconds to drop.
Now if it was an old car with cable throttle - I would be thinking sticky cable, but as it has electronic throttle from what I understand, it can't be that.
Mine dies it when it's hot. If there is a demand from engine temp, ac or gearbox if auto, the revs will rise to make the cooling fan work.
Do you hear the fan working when it does it?Mark.

Hi
It does not appear to be linked to the fan, as the only time we can hear the fan is first thing in the morning (the usual roar as you pull away).
Other than that time - there is no noticeable change in the fan tone that we can hear, even with the windows down.
The other thing is that it is not linked to really hot days, as it does it in the cooler wet days also?
In that case, get your fault codes read and probably look at the live values.Mark.

check the live data on both the coolant and oil temp sensors specially the oil temp can make a D3 do funny things

Hi
I have looked with the Nanocom but nothing there is nothing stored other than comms issues. There was a HVAC fault that has not reappeared - could it be linked, even though the fault is not there?
Kind regards
Jay

Hi Geoff,
Hows things - flushing keeping you busy
I have never used the Nanocom for live data yet, so will have to read up to find out how to do this. Oil temp sensor has been replaced with Genuine part, and the previous oil temp sensor intermittent fault is no longer there.
Kind regards

Nice, cheap fix
Hi DM,
Thanks for the reply - the oil temp sensor has been replaced with a genuine sensor and I have no faults listed for the intermittent temperature reading fault it used to give.
Also, your issue was a lot more severe than what I am experiencing, as your revs were rising and lowering - mine just seems to stick for a few seconds then drop off.
Kind regards
Jay

Hi,
I have the same sort of problem with the revs not dropping. Do i understand it correct that replacing the oil temp sensor fixed the problem?

Not necessarily so, the throttle body could be sticking as well as EGR's

Hi,
The garage noticed that the egr's are closing a bit late when releasing the throttle, but it doesn't give any fault codes. Seems like the egr's are doing exactly what the motor management tells them to do. So the problem seems to be in some sensor or software fault. They've checked basically everything now, and the mechanic thinks its gearbox related, because when it's sticking and you put it in neutral in immediately drops to idle. They are now planning to do the software update to see if that will make any difference.
Throttle body and MAF and MAP sensors are all cleaned, didn't help.
