Interesting towbar for D3 and D4 |
|
I've been looking at a towbar for mine but just don't like the ones where it looks like a terrible afterthought...
Spotted this by a guy in South Africa, looks really good, and very tidy.
http://www.g4outdoor.co.za/Gallery/video_gallery.php
I tried to paste the actual video but seems I can only paste the gallery...either way, it's the last video, see how easily (and tidy) it fits. Its passed a South African bureau of standards 3.5tonne test.
As I will be in Johannesburg for a work trip in June I am picking one of these up, and will deffo post a review and some pics here. I could possibly pick up one more if anyone is interested.
Cheers

Not unless they are EU approved at huge cost.
Vote UKIP for freedom (to buy towbars)! Tony

Why would a towbar be illegal? And what consequence is it to me? 06 HSE TDV6

Ok, I see... I forgot about politics.
It seems I should consider not fitting this towbar which is a massive shame since I really don't like the ones on the market..
Just read about EC90/24 blah blah.
Could I have some opinions from others about the removable towbar on the D3? I'm towing a trailer tent on the yearly holidays to Hungary and back.
Should I just go for the standard removable? 06 HSE TDV6

You can't get the Mitch Hitch either.

They looked into getting it TUV tested and it would have cost a fortune. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I have just fitted the removable tow trust bar. It is the neatest of the aftermarket towbars and is very strong and well made. I wouldn't trust the standard removable bar for what you want to do.
By the way ignore the prices on the towtrust website they will be give you a significant discount when you order. D3 2005

Looks like an elegant and simple solution.
I wonder how many LR and other vehicles are out there with non TUV approved tow bars? I wonder what percentage of trailer accidents are because of the tow bar. Very few I would think.

Watched the video a couple of times, and as an ex engineer(gauge & toolmaker) without handling and seeing that attachment in the flesh I would not be too happy in trusting my twin axle tin shed to a pinch bolt, because that is what the first section of the bracket appears to be fixed by, the rest of the attachment is very sturdy, but that allen key bolt first screwed up gives me no confidence in its ability to stay fixed to the car. Just my opinion, I may be wrong??????????????

I'd have loved to get a Mitchell hitch, have a removeable LR NAS hitch for our bike rack but can't tow with it legally despite it being Oz and US approved FFS
