Adrian Flux were always very competitive, not sure at the moment but will give them a try when my renewal comes around.

It amazes me the variation in insurance costs. I am in a 'good' postcode area, which I know helps. I moved from Leeds postcode several years ago, and the cost my domestic policies and both our car policies dropped by 30%.
I'll try the companies that have been suggested and post back the results, just for everyones information. Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

Why do you buy one of the best cars on the market and then look for the cheapest insurance
The amount of the premium is only part of the picture.
1. What are the limitations on windscreen as to excess for replacement or repair and is there a maximum payout?
2. What is the total excess for accident, fire or theft?
3. Do they all provide a replacement vehicle in the event of a fault accident?
4. If your car is written off, how long can you keep the loan car they provide?
5. Class One business use is not a comparable term - does that mean the policies include business use by spouse?
6. What security conditions are there if any in respect of alarm/immobiliser/tracker/keys?
7. Do they provide automatic cover on loan cars when your car is in for service?
8. Is the excess waived if hit by an uninsured motorist?
9. Is European cover included without charge?
10. Would they consider a temporary young driver to be added?
11. Do they allow temporary additional cars to be added?
12. How many claims can you make before you lose the protected NCD?
13. Is there any breakdown cover included?
14. Do they include Legal Expenses cover?
15. Is the driving other cars cover included on the certificate.
16. Is there a mileage restriction in line with your declared estimate?
17. Do they impose an administration charge for any changes to the policy?
18. What do they consider to be off road and not covered?
19. Have you declared those modifications?
Buy the cheapest at your peril - Hidden excess, no loan car, additional fees, refusing changes etc can soon make your "bargain" an expensive mistake.

Checked all your points and Admiral were still very competitive. Bear in mind that even the most expensive policy has exclusions

Quite correct even the most expensive policy will have exclusions and conditions (as of course all legal documents do) but how many check these points before they buy rather than waiting until there is a problem or claim and then find the policy does not meet their expectations.
In particular, Admiral have to right to use recycled parts/non genuine parts in repairs to the vehicle if over 3 years old. There is also a limit for the amount they would pay for the factory fitted radio/cd/satnav equipment which would probably be insufficient for the Discovery. Who would be 100% happy with those conditions?
caveat emptor

Quite correct, but you also have to weigh up cost over risk and then make an informed decision. The dearest is not always the best

I buy the most cost effective,(taking into account comp excess, vol excess, windscreen, repairs etc) and therefore have money left for all the repairs to keep the D3 on the road. Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

Regrettably that is where it often fails as some totally reject information over price and then when it all goes wrong its ......

Well after an evening of 'hoop jumping', have got mine from a renewal premium of £614 (Flux) down to £343 (goCompare.com). Not a bad couple of hour's work.
And, yes, I know there will be exclusion clauses, exemptions and no doubt shedloads of legal 'wriggle room' to allow the slippery ba tards of the Great British insurance w'industry to avoid or reduce what they may pay out anyway, so I figure the less I pay out on an annual basis to enjoy the use of my motor vehicle upon the highways & byways of this land and remain legally roadworthy, the better If it has TIT's or WHEEL's it will cause you problems!!

To true Gobbler, the whole insurance system is twisted and stinks to high heaven.
You pay to get covered from a legal perspective, as no one knows how good there insurance is till they use them. And that changes on an annual basis. I know of company's that used to be great, well so the people said that put a claim in through them and it went smooth and got paid out. Few years later and there bought out by someone and the customer service goes down the pan.
I have paid premium and received bad service, I have paid budget and received good service. In my experience its a bit of a lucky dip. I am not going to be loyal to any of them because that all there hoping for.

I pay 1600pounds fully comp...ish covers all damage but not sub car. And this price is through a contact..normal price 2k plus.
Car insurance here relects the traffic incidents.... It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
