Off-Road events organised by Clubs/Manufacturers are covered, along with Green Laning the same as any other road. If you are out in a field or generally 'off road' then you are covered as long as you don't put your vehicle in any undue danger e.g trying to transverse a river.

Why would you need cover to drive off road?

a track across a private land, say, is private land and needs no insurance at all.

Not true all of the time, our farm track is private land, however there are lno ocked gates nor signs restricting use to qualifying parties or comes under the road traffic act so you need insurance.

That land accessible to the public so the same as the highway (like a school carpark, pub carpark, your drive, etc..

ETA: I was really meaning pay and play sites - the sort of places someone would take their 4x4.

However, the EU are currently attempting to change the legislation so that ALL private land is also covered.

Revolves around a case where someone was injured by a tractor on a farm - but I can't remember the name of the case.

We have to have third party cover for the farm just like any other business, vehicle insurance doesn't come into it, it covers the farm, equipment, animals etc.

Of course... that is different.

I'm on about a test case currently going through that will cause a rate rise to motor insurance as cover is extended to cover more eventualities.

Another example is, an insurer is not currently liable if a vehicle is used deliberately as weapon.

You said it involved a tractor, ours is covered under our third party liability cover, couldn't use it otherwise.

I've been very happy with Admiral multi cover for a couple of years now with similar 19 year old and have included house insurance as well, will see in the next couple of weeks if I will remain happy when the renewal comes in..........

I've been with Admiral multi-car for a good few years now, but their price just kept creeping up every year. This year they wanted £740 for the D4 and my wife's Kia Soul, so shopped around and got better cover with Direct Line for £529 Thumbs Up

Hmm, renewal came in from Admiral, it had gone up to £2034 for Disco, Audi A1 and Adam (with 20 year old driving) and home insurance. I was happy with A1 and Adam costs but house and Disco were a bit iffy.

10 minutes on the phone and I'm down to £1568...…..which is cheaper than last year which didn't have the house cover on it (£566 for a 20 year old in an Adam is brilliant) Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I did query why and he did say it was just computer generated and they have discounts they can apply.

Moral of the story, always give them a call.

Our Thatcham office has the specialist 4x4 cover including off-roading policies if needed

Worth looking on trustpilot to compare reviews for insurers and peoples experiences with them

Thanks

I did give them a call and £740 was the best they could get it down to. To me, it seems nowadays that the longer you are with a company the worse they seem to treat you price wise. It appears that all the price incentives/discounts are directed towards new customers. For me, loyalty is a thing of the past Crying or Very sad
