Insurance quotes....

I just got my renewal from NFU, its gone up from £660 last year to £837 this renewal, and that includes a £199.52 loyalty bonus! I have a £150 excess with NFU.

I have searched around a bit, and come up with £512.95 at Swift cover (£400 excess),
Sureterm quoted me £943

EDIT - Lancaster are coming in at over £1100 Shocked

What prices are others getting? I am specifying 25k per annum, C1 business use, me and spouse to drive.

I'm just playing around with the online quoting meerkats, and it would appear that it is my mileage that is affecting the quotations.

By repaeting the search with an annual miles estimate of just 5k, then I could get insurance from Budget for £368, with a £700 excess (£250 voluntary)

Mileage and Use often makes me laugh. Whenever I've made a claim, from Windows to right off;s I've never been asked where I was going and why or how many miles....

I am tempted to say my miles is much lower than the 25k that I originally specified. It does say "estimated" in the help prompt Laughing

As for where I was going, I work in the golf industry, so I am always going to the golf club, and my clubs are always in the car. That could always be argued as pleasure I suppose. Having said that, class1 does not seem to add much.

Does anybody specifically know what "Commercial Travelling" is?

Commercial travelling is when you use the vehicle for business use.
So if your travelling around the country on business - that's business use.

I've got same price as DJ at around £350 per annum on business use.
I'm through Livic but have to be a member of the CSMA
[I also get an IAM benefit]

btw my mileage is around 35k pa.

Land Rover Insurance wanted £390 for the same cover.

Ron, I meant Commercial travelling as opposed to business use. It is an option on some policies. Since I posted, I have found a definition on a business forum:

If you want to be insured to drive your car for business use, you are going to need to make sure your policy is extended to Class One business vehicle insurance, which would normally mean your spouse would also be covered. If you plan on allow your staff to use the car then Class Two is required.

Class One and Two business vehicle insurance will cover you for most business use, with the exception of ‘commercial travelling’ This is defined as travelling from place to place in search of custom, but each insurance company will have its own exact definition. If you do need cover for commercial travelling your policy will have to be increased to Class Three. And as you’d probably expect the higher the classification, the higher the premium will be.

Managed to negotiate NFU down to £647.69, with unlimited miles, and off road cover.

My postcode could be a bad one I suppose when compared with the wilds of Cumbria and North Yorkshire.

2009 Disco GS with plus packs - Zurich Solutions - 1 year premium for Comprehensive Insurance, including c/car, legal etc, having been with them and left, returning, maximum no claims, 150 quid compulsory excess, nil voluntary - 114 quid! plus g/teed no claims protection.

Had to amend it to add 20" LR alloys - 10 quid extra.

Total cost 124 quid.

Schedule came thro' - all correct. Pricing glitch? Remote postcode with no crime - yes. Think it will be a difficult one to beat and not holding my breath at the next renewal.

Thumbs Up Glad you're sorted Gareth.

What I don't get though is that my price has been around the same for the last 5 years.
But my D3 has significantly reduced in value - so if insurance have to write it off it's going to cost them at least a quarter of what the price was when new!
So why am I still paying as much on insurance?
Confused
