Insurance and modifications? |
|
Who has a modified D3, and what do you declare to the insurance company?
I have a D3, with a roof rack, ladder, underbody protection plating, rock/tree sliders, AT Tyres, D44 bumper and winch.
Went to NFU and they quoted £649 fully comp for my wife and me. I'm 48 full NCD and live in the middle of nowhere. Is this a rip off or about right?
Thanks
John

Just got off the phone from Adrian Flux. £516.91
Including off road cover and all mods covered including Blanked EGR's done myself.
They really knew what they were talking about. Well impressed.
Cheers

I hope I am not being stupid but the ONLY modification I can see here is the EGR blank - all the others are just optional accessories????

No, some insurers classify some of these as mods if they are after market additions.

20 inch wheels were never an option on a d3 let alone stormers!
As for the side steps window tints and leather interior how do I know they were on the vehicle from the factory? Not worth the risk in my opinion, if anything happens iv left them with very few ways of getting out of a claim!

Has the insurance company ever got out of a claim because someone had the spec wrong on their car, like window tint or sidesteps, and my wheels say landrover on the hub cap so i assume they are original as i dont really know much about cars anyway , has anyone any exsperiance like this when making a claim?
I know of one person who didnt declare 3 points and had a major crash but they couldnt drop her claim and all went through ok.

Yes you are correct if its all genuine landrover stuf then you could claim you didn't know any different, but what people forget is they come on forums telling everyone what they have just put on there car etc etc and insurance company's can access all this and use it against you.
A lad I know had a tvr cerbera which was all insured fully comp but after he had a serious accident they looked into the car and it had some tvr optional wheels on that were not factory fit they used this against him and didn't pay him a penny, the 3rd party was sorted but he got nothing.
In my eyes you pay your money you take your chance! It's up to you. I know I'm covered. I even have the correct rates tyres on my 20s!

Tell them what you've told them.
Yep, 3 posts should do it
