We all know insurance companies make it up as they go along, but this one baffled me.
I got a quote for a disco 3 through confused.com and Admiral came back with a pretty good price. However, the next price was also admiral but over £100 dearer. Looking closer, this was their "black box" option, where you have a telematics box in the car to monitor your driving.
So you have to pay over £100 more, for them to snoop on you and then hope that they give you more than £100 discount next year to make it worthwhile paying £100 more for the snooping box in the first place! Plus they also want £40 if you change vehicle or another £100 to remove it completely mid term.
We all know insurers increase their price each year, so I would have no confidence whatsoever that my renewal price would be low enough to cover the initial outlay of the snooping box.
Think Ill stick to plain ole' insurance!

Within our lifetime all cars will have the boxes as std and all cars will read where they are and not allow you to exceed the speed limit at any costs, basically the world will get even slower as common sense gets less common.

It seems strange, but it comes down to them managing a risk profile. They effectively have buckets of various sizes, one for say boy racers in a saxo and one for old timers in a rover, etc. they aim to keep their risk the same, so the bucket with telematics as an add on (which is probably slightly lower risk) is full and getting there and they would rather you did not purchase it.
Seems counter intuitive... but that's one of the ways they work Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

I can't understand how they all haven't demanded that all cars have dashcams. It will soon be the norm that they are fitted as standard to all new cars.
