Insurance Implications of Engine Re-map
Can anyone tell me whether I need to tell my insurance company that I have had my engine re-mapped?
It's in the garage today getting the wizzadry done, but the last thing I want to do is risk an insurance policy for the thick end of £40k, just because I didn't tell the muppets in the call centre.
1) Does it make a difference to the quote??
2) If you don't tell them, will they ever know??
Any help &/or guidance would be greatfully received.

If you run with the dogs you could probably get away with it ...but for peace of mind then get it covered. LRI covered my Torq Tune for a small fee and now I can sleep at night 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Thanks guys. I'll see what the big fat useless Elephant says...
and I'll also have to ask the grease monkey if it's a torq-tune or something else.
I really know nothing about motors. I just love driving the big beast.07 plate TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

Got mine covered for nought.
I explained that is was a 4 wheel drive Land Rover - not a max power hatch.
Also that I got it for low down torque for towing.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

ISTR that Privilege would cover it with a remap, premium much lower but no offroad cover. I think they wanted ~£120 more/year. You'll also need to know the HP increase for Elephant Man for them to work out an uplift. Definately worth etting properly insured as it's not just the cost of your car, you could be liable for many times that if it is a hefty 3rd party claim.

Seems to be a bit of a lottery this. LRI refused point blank when I enquired and NFU said OK and didn't want to increase the premium at all.
As has been said strongly recommend you get cover fro any remap. Consequences could be horrible and v expensive if you are involved in an accident and insurance company discovers the remap and you haven't told them about it.
I would also take with a pinch of marketing salt any claims that the remap is invisible. The program and data for management systems are stored in memory. Memory can be read.

bit complicated - it's via the CSMA who use Frizzel which is LiVic.
A condition of my policy is that I must still be a member of the CSMA
[Civil Servants Motoring Authority - or something like that]
Had also made them aware of my Stormers & other bits and that I tow - again no bump on the premium.
Mines a business Policy btw.

As it's free nowadays it's not really a hardship!
I used be with Frizzell, good cover but was always a bit dubious of the off-road cover they said I had so went to LRI last time I renewedThe End

I've just been through gocompare.com and the only company there that would quote was some performancetuneforchavs.com which was a £900 premium and a £700 excess.
I think I'm going to have to hit the phones for this one.

I have to agree with you on that, thought that a while ago when I came looking from Freel2
I like how the black nudge bar has the silver trim behind it, and what looks to be slightly wider wheels. (is the silver bumber standard or have you swapped it?

I rang my insurance company today, egg, and they said it would go up by £100 between now and Sept for a 20% increase in power. Obviously I am not going to tell them until I renew and find someone cheaper. Also a member of avforums.com
