Insurance Hike and Telematic Policies

After 3 years with the same insurance company I must have been elevated to the position of ‘Loyal’ customer as they’ve decided to hike my premium by 24% Twisted Evil

A quick compare search shaves a £100 off that price Rolling Eyes

I also got a quote that was nearly £200 cheaper that involved telematics, I always thought they were for new drivers. Has anybody had any experience of this sort of policy, I’m assuming it would be App based.

Lastly curious as to what people are currently paying for their insurance to see if I’m looking in the right places. I’m over 50, over 30 years no claims, 10k miles per annum, post code ok and it’s a 2015 D4 HSE.
Current renewal £560, best normal quote £455 and the telematic quote is £365.

Are those figures competitive? Thanks.

I’ve just renewed mine yesterday. After a bit of haggling with different companies, I got it for £370.

31 years old, 12 years no claims, no points etc, business use and mods covered (roof rack, rock sliders etc, no extra power).

It was £430 last year for same cover.

That’s for Surrey postcode on a 2010 D4 HSE. Thumbs Up

For the D4, I’ve never paid more than £250 for protected full comp, curtesy car, £150 excess, no voluntary.

One year I got it for under £120, but I think that was a one off.

I am with Priviledge now for the cars and the house, you get a multi policy discount and for me they are the cheapest of the lot.

Confused .com is pretty good....showed me £207 fully comp on a 2008 HSE D3....but valued at £11k...

Mines a G4 with the extras with a reviewed quote with a value of £20k now showing £280 fully comp with a decent insurer....

I’m over 50 with 18 yrs no claims....

AXA invited renewal this year at £350 against £270 last year....

It’s worth challenging them on the phone... they’ve instantly dropped to £305 but still not quite there...i’m In same position ..do you go with the devil you know for £25?

Telematics are good for new drivers in that the insurance company hound you by email soon after any transgressions, aggressive driving and braking. If you continue they will start threatening to pull out.
However, because of significant issues and limitations with the GPS they use, it is very easy to be determined as driving in a little waywardly. This is because of the GPS sample rates and signal propagation issues especially if you drive in built up areas of forested areas. The insurers will not accept these technical issues believing they are always 100% right.

They can be more trouble than they are worth, but they do have a place.

I managed to get a non telematics policy for my newly qualified son on a 5yr old KA for £300 less than the closest telematics policy. That came down by another £400+ on renewal.

Thanks everybody for the input and some of you do seem to be getting a cracking deal.

Found a site that rates your postcode ours is coming in at halfway between low and middle, so I guess that could be worse than I thought.

I’ll have to spend some time checking individual insurance company’s rather than trying to do it in 5 minutes on the comparison sites.

Agreed. Telematics can be shoved where the sun doesn't shine. I enjoy driving too much to worry about accelerating too fast, cornering too fast or braking too hard...

Just to bring this to a close. £480 was the best I could do which was with site sponsor A Plan. Got a few slightly cheaper quotes with less comprehensive cover so decided this was my best option overall. Decided against a telematic policy which seemed more hassle than it was worth.

Don’t know how you guys are getting it so cheap, must be living near the smoke or the value or probably a combination of both.

4 cars, 3 with the same insurer (all between 200 and 265hp) along with house insurance in a low crime area, no points and no claims. Being older sadly. It all adds up.

Even so, they try it on with every renewal.
