Instructions, removing and refitting Expo rack |
|
I know it is sacrilege to consider it for a G4 but........
does anyone have a pdf or tif of the instructions for fitting and removal? I have several long journeys to do in the next few weeks for which I do not need the rack, and just to make motorway cruising slightly more comfortable (as far as noise is concerned) I am considering taking the rack off for a few weeks.
Unfortunately I didn't get instructions with it Craig

Go to the LR website and navigate to the Owners Information Page.
You can download pdf's for all accessory fitting. I guess working backwards you can see how to remove it.

Hi, I'm looking to remove my Expo roofrack for a while also, have looked on the owner's info but can't find anything about fitting and removal of roofracks, could somebody please help?
This rack was dealer fitted and they have told me that once fitted they are not supposed to be removed as some trim has to be cut away for the brackets to fit, does anyone know if this is correct? I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

Sort of true....
The brackets for the rack nearest the front of the car do need a small piece of trim removing, but they should of left you with the blanking plugs. If not, then a small piece of waterproof electrical tape should just about do it.

True ,
The trim ( weather strip ) was actually cut out also to allow the roof rails to sit into the slot below aswell.
I've a set on order for when I strip all my roof bits off.

When my expo rack was fitted, the dealer told me also that it wasn't supposed to be removed. It did not come with plugs either.
When I removed it (10 minutes, but you need a second person to help lift it off the roof), two holes in the roof-strip were left. I just put 2 bolts with wide washers in, with a piece of rubber under the washer cut to the same size, to seal/cover the holes. I think the holes my dealer cut in the strip were wider than the plugs would have been anyway..
This way no water or dirt gets in and it doesn't look obtrusive.

I have every intention of using Duct Tape to cover the holes and secure the Auxiliary connector that feeds the lights and Communications antenna Craig

Thanks guys for your help on this, I have been on to the dealer to get me some replacement plugs because apparently the fitters threw them away as the fitting instructions say to discard them, seems a bit daft to me but there you go I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

It has a picture in the fitting instructions showing a dustbin, the plugs and an arrow linking them. Of course if it's your own motor, you save them - but if you're garage fitter on someone else's vehicle you follow orders.
For those who are removing their roof racks, it is vital to save every fitting as I understand that the fitting kit is only sold as part of the rack. If you lose part of it, you have to fabricate it yourself (as in A frame brackets! )
There's and exped roof rack on ebay that appeared today. eBay Item No. 320213414865
