Installing cornering / static bending lights |
|
My car currently has the silver domes in place of the 35w H8 globes, I would like to fit and enable these so that they will work.
Can anyone tell me what wires are for the cornering lights, there appear to be 3 unused wires.
Pin16 black, pin 4 red, and pin 8 green/orange stripe.
There is also a 2 pin connector behind each head light but I don't think it's the one I want?
My plan is to use a dremel to split the crome dome and take it out through the hole. Fit the bulb holders and enable them in the ccf.
First step though is to see if the wiring is in place

A D3 uses a red wire in pin 4 and black in pin 9 of the headlight assembly connectors, according to the circuit diagram.
I'd be interested in hearing how successful you are at removing the silver domes.
From where can the bulb holders be obtained? Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

Thanks Graeme,
I will have a play with those wires tomorrow. I managed to remove the domes but it is fiddly and the swarf left by the dremmel cannot be completly removed, but I think it's a better option than to put the whole assembly in the oven and take off the front cover! Too much stress for me! I later thought you could try to make the cuts using a soldering iron?
I had a look today at Auto 1 and they had 35w H8 globes in halogen for $37 each, much to my suprise they are a complete unit with bulb holder and all. I just bought some small blade type crimp on fittings for the connections. I'll let you know how I get on from here.

A soldering iron is more up my alley. I've already aborted an attempt to open a headlight where I was going to fix the possum lights although I will try again but with some assistance. I'm surprised too about the holders, although now that you mention it, I have a tractor that uses a strange globe (35W & 50W) and the holder is part of the globe.
I think we might see some cornering lights working soon! Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

A quick search of ebay reveals that the H8 power socket is the same one used to provide power to HID ballasts and only $6 for a pair of extension leads.
Edit: Add a pair of 68 SMD LED globes for $8! Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

Well I've hooked it all up using pins 9 and 4 and the result is
I routed the wires from behind the main plug and drilled 2 small holes for the wire to pass into the lamp housing.
In the ccf you need to set
the cornering lights as "fitted" and
the Corner Lights Disable as "Disable" (a double negative?? Why would thay do that??)

Hey Ken that's great! Another LR shortcoming conquered.
If they're not bright enough then HID kits are available. I've only ordered $8 LED globes to see how useful they could be. Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

I want to install cornering lights in my LR4 (US config). Is it possible to post a photo of your installation?
Thanks and greetings from a german in (at this time) italy.

hey kenny,
good work.
I had many meaningful discussions with LR, about 12 months ago, to have the missing cornering lights supplied, as they were originally listed in the spec sheets of the brochure (since removed) but not supplied and disguised by chrome facsimile's......ie meaningful on my part but apathy and denial on LR's part.
However, thanks for the heads up.

The installation is pretty easy, getting the chrome domes out is the hardest part. I think my dentist would be better at than I. It really is fiddly, then you need to get hold of the dome with pliers and pull it out. I'll post some photo's of the end result on the weekend.
Truth be told though, I took it for a drive last night and it's... OK... but not a remarkable improvement. All the same a cheap mod if you have the MSV2 , and especially if you order the parts on line.

I wont be expecting too much from mine as I've discovered the bull-bar is just in front of the lights. Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

Hi,
as an addition: The original pins associated with the cornering lights are pin 4 and 16 for the D4 according to the wiring diagram. But pin 9 will work also because pin 16 is connected to ground.
I would be glad to see your pictures!
