Installing a camera equaliser to fix the blue screen
Hello everyone
I’m new to the forum so be kind. I did have a good search for this topic already, so I do apologise if it has been covered elsewhere already.
I’m new to LR actually. Just bought a 2013 Disco 4 HSE last week and I’ve managed to overcome a few faults already, but wrt the parking cameras I feel like I need more information and I was hoping someone on here might be able to point me in the right direction please.
My car has 5 cameras in all, that I know of, the front two are always blank (or rather depict a blue screen with a red cross in it), the o/s mirror camera is intermittent for a 5 seconds or so and then appears to spring into life. I’ve followed the instruction in the owners manual and cleaned all the lenses, but this hasn’t helped.
A little Googling has shown that the general theory is the signal from the cameras is too weak on arrival to the camera interface and that an amplifier needs to be installed inline. I asked LR about this common problem and they looked surprised and said they would put it on the diagnostic tool for £200 or something stupid. I’m borrowing a LR diagnostic machine later in the week from a friend so I’ll see what that brings up.
I have found a product on eBay which portends to be the magic fix for this problem. They also appear to sell them on Rimmerbros for £86.50.
Has anyone tried this as a fix? Did it work? What was the install like? Are there any notes from LR on this as I can’t find any in my version of the workshop manual?

My 2013 HSE Lux is exactly the same. Front cameras are totally u/s and the under mirror cameras eventually come to life and the image stabilises. The reverse camera is fine.
As far as I was told, I need new cameras in the front, and the intermittent side cameras are a wiring issue. At over £200 per camera I said no, and will just use the reverse cam.

So, it appears it’s a fixed price for a genuine part, it’s the same price at LR. They were no help though in providing any service bulletins or instructions as you’d expect. I called a couple of Indies today, who hadn’t heard of the kit or anyone doing a fix.
Here’s an American service bulletin I found with some usual info wrt part numbers / descriptions, references to workshop manuals, etc.
I’ve also attempted to attach three screenshots of another service bulletin, which basically admits it’s a design fault and will be fully replaced if under warranty.

I think between us we can get to the bottom of this and possibly help a good deal of people with this apparently very common fault.

Ok, I think I've found it in the workshop manual; its called a 'parking aid camera signal filter'.
Essentially, it looks a pretty straight forward job to fit the amplifiers/signal filters/equalisers.
My one reservation is that coax cable appears to have been used to plumb this system in. Coax really hates any sharp bends, so if there's a sharp kink in your wiring anywhere between the interface under the seat and the camera units, it may well be too much for even the equaliser to fix.
New wiring loom sounds a cheap and quick job..
