Incident Cameras (dashcam) will not work through screen!

Sad Took my MY16, on the recommendation, of the LR dealer, to an electrical workshop opposite to have front and rear 'vision drive' cameras 'hard wired' - a 4 hour job apparently. Take courtesy 'discovery sport' for the day (so glad I didn't go for the 'sport' .... its not a Discovery - nothing like it! and should not bear the name IMO Rolling Eyes ) .. anyway .... I digress.... Whistle

Get phone call late pm from fitter saying the windscreen is blocking the unit from picking up a GPS signal so they have returned it to the dealer with no cameras.... Big Cry Maybe its a MY16 thing (doubt it) - a camera thing .... don't know..... the fitter was non committal whether they had problems fitting it in other Land Rovers ..... and I could tell it wasn't right to push for an answer ..... they had spent some time trying to get it to work and were a bit miffed. 'Lets just say we failed' he said shortly Shocked

Now I know there are others here with different cameras ... big 'blackvue' cameras and others on 'stalks' - too obtrusive IMO and I wanted something small, powerful and discreet .... maybe there is no such thing at the moment that will work in a Disco ......, that LR do not offer any incident cameras, at all, as a dealer/factory fit - for whatever model (as I understand) - speaks volumes to me .... I'm disappointed, but will have to live without it for the time being.... Rolling Eyes

Wouldn't have thought they have changed the glass in the MY16. I have a RoadAngel with GPS next to the rear view camera. It took a good couple of hours to get its first GPS lock in that position but has been booting up and locking to GPS within seconds of the ignition coming on ever since. Wonder if they tried getting the devices to initialise and lock to the GPS for the first time outside the car then mounting them?

Had an 0802 working fine, you just need to ensure the gps antenna is mainly
In the black shaded area behind rear view mirror to work.

Have yet to install on my15 but nothing has changed

Why does it speak volumes ? There aren't many,if any, manufacturers offering this as a factory fit item.

Soon these bloody cameras will become standard fit and you'll have to have one or your insurance will be sky high, they will be able to track your every move, the police will be able to use the data, this culture of blame that now exists in the UK is sickening, somebody always has to have their nose in your business. Oh look at that he pulled out in front i'm reporting him to the police cos i'm perfect what a load of bollo cks. Whistle

I can see why people want them and they probably are a good idea, but the whole sorting of big brother being watched all the time does bother me.

As does potentially being incriminated by my own camera!

You are in control of your own camera, if you don't want to use it for evidence, then you don't need to Thumbs Up

Not sure, wouldn't the police just take it or get a warrant to do so if the accident was serious enough?

Nope, nothing stopping you reformatting the card. Takes 10 seconds in the camera just holding one button. That's in the BV anyway Thumbs Up

So you do something wrong you're going to quickly wipe the card, you see someone else do something wrong you're going to report them. Rolling Eyes

Correct, that's my prerogative Thumbs Up
Although reporting people doing something wrong is not what I bought it for.

MMM
I have just decided to dump my Snooper 4 Neo on the basis that I did exactly this and it didn't work.
I.E went for 30 minute drive, no GPS acquired.
Took it out of the car and left it on mains in the conservatory, acquired GPS.
Put it back in the car NO GPS acquired "must be windscreen" - bin it!
Any comments/suggestions folks?
