I would suggest the new head is faulty.

That is what I am thinking so it is nice to have somone else thinking same way. I'm arranging for it to go back anyway now. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Now got the replacement pump head fitted and working correctly, so the blowing air must have been to do with the faulty pump head. Hope noone else gets the same problem.
