Hi guys, i wonder if anyone can help me please. Ive had this problem before christmas but it cured itself only to reappear today. When i put the key in the ignition, all lights come on but it wont start. Its had a new battery so thats ok, but ive noticed the flashing immobiliser light stays on even when i turn the key to start like the car isnt recognising the key? According to the handbook it says when the key is put in there should be a 1 second flash then the car will start so i reckon there might be a problem with the ignition switch? Any suggestions would really be appreciated as i need the car to visit my mum in hospital and this this could'nt have happened at a worse time for me.

Is there a procedure in the handbook for syncing the key to the car after a battery change? That might need to be done first. Daft question but does this happen with the spare key too? My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

Assuming you have an automatic rather than a manual then you may have a problem with the auto gearbox linkage.

Thanks for the replies guys, mines a manual gearbox and before christmas it did the same thing so i changed the battery and it didnt cure it, then after a few tries starting it was ok again, and has been for over 4 weeks until today. The handbook does say that when you put the key in the ignition the flashing immobliser light stops flashing after 1 second but mines still on even with all dash lights lit. Its as though the system doesnt recognize the keys anymore.

Have you checked your battery in the keyfob sounds like a keyfob issue to me...because if it was anything else on the car it would throw an error code up... or you might have some dampness in the BCM connectors..

As you have a manual rather than an auto then you have a different problem form the one I had.

Just managed to get the car started and everything ok apart from warning message..park brake fault, so i'm wondering if this just coincidence or could a park brake fault keep the immobliser on and stop the car starting?
