IIDTool BT fail to connect the app |
|
Hi everybody,
I use my IDTool BT for 17 days and it was working perfectly.
Unfortunately, today the app can't connect without any apparent reason.
Tried a lot of things (de-installed/re-installed app, checked WiFi, BT, GPS,...) unsuccessfully.
Asked GAP for any help, but as always, they said "Chinese phone"...
Any idea ?

Hi!
Four days later, my tool works again with my phone... Why? I don't know exactly but the only thing I did was to re install the 5.3 updater from the BAS (Dropbox) link instead of the GAP (software informer) link. My first update with the GAP updater clearly did not work properly, despite the success messages that were displayed.
This time the update went very well and after re-entering my data, everything is fine.
So the problem was not my phone but the tool's firmware...

As i read you other posts regarding the GAP tool, you do not seem to like it very much….
I think the common opinion here is another one though….
I never experienced issues with firmware, software or otherwise with my GAP IID
Not on my iPhones 6 and now 12 pro max, not on my iPad pro
If i ask for help (Pat) responses are reasonable quick, keeping in mind, Pat is in Canada and i am in The Netherlands
I see only one drawback and that is that remapping is locked for general use and only unlocked if you use 1 certain company (monopolistic) BUT easy and rather cheap to find a work around for that specific use…
I think GAP iid is worth every penny though… very happy with it! Best regards
Harold

From what I've read of the Gap tool across various sites, it does seem a bit hit & miss, possibly 'quirky' is the best descriptor? It's not on my list of 'need to haves' despite having several LR products in the family.
It seems to be more of a 'fiddling' tool rather than a diagnostic aid, sure, there are sensor values available to view, some values seem a bit buggy, which isn't what you want if you need reliable data to get to the bottom of a concern.

I can't say that I don't like it... At the beginning, I was very hesitating to buy a more than €600 device without any guarantee that it will works. Finally, I've bought it because it was the only way to know !
So, when I get the same reply ("low cost generic") when it's the tool's firmware that bugs (or perhaps the updater software), I'm pretty unhappy.
Nevertheless, it's a good tool that has some advantages compare to most of other diag tools. By example, I needed it to program new keys. But for this price, I think it could offer some very basic functions like activations and a better documentation.
Today, some other tools come on the market that could offer the same functions or better and for much cheaper.
