iid tool transfer case calibration

I have just replaced my transfer case and have an IID tool BT,

Surprise have multiple warnings re lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module, lost comms with ride level height module.
I have successfully re cabilrated the gearbox XY position sensor.
When I try to recalibrate the transfer case stepper motor I get an E7 failure...
could this be a F**cked stepper motor,

or am I missing something in the recalibration. I know I need to energise the motor and the workshop manual says using a T4 landrover system which I have no access to.
does the ID tool Cut it or do I ned to get it to a garage in limp mode to recalibrate the transfer box..?
